Hello! My name is Mrs. McCulloch and I teach grade 5/6. We are experimenting with blogging and this is our first time giving it a try. Some of us have blogged before in pervious years, while others are brand new at this.

I am going to tell you a little bit about myself. I am 24 years old about to turn 25. My favourite colour is red, and my favourite sport is ultimate frisbee. I just joined a new team over the summer and we had lots of fun. I also dance. I like to teach tap, jazz and ballet. One of my favourite genres to watch is hip-hop.

I have two brothers (Kyle & Corey). They are great (although I wouldn't have said that 10 years ago). I am looking forward to spending Christmas with them.

Bye bye for now!

Mrs. M

Hello Grade 5/6,

1. COMMENT on the following question:

What are your favourite colours?

2. Login and complete the following journal entry:

Who is a hero of yours? It can be a friend, relative or someone famous. Make sure to tell me why this person is important to you. They may inspire you to do good things or just make you feel good about yourself. You are always welcome to tell me about more than one person who you consider to be a hero.

If you do not remember how to log in go to Mrs. M and follow the instructions. You can also ask a neighbour or ask me of course. :)

Enjoy!

Happy Holidays!!

Or at least the holidays are coming really soon. I bet you are all looking forward to the holidays. Some well deserved days off from reading, writing and math is always a nice treat at the end of the year.

Your first task today is to read your comment section. I was able to respond to your Hero entry over the weekend. If you need help locating this section let me know!

Your second task is to tell me about your holidays. Everyone makes up plans for the holidays - even if it means sleeping, eating the video games. Everyone gets two whole weeks off, which is tons of time to complete many different things. Please fill us all in! Remember to log in and go to your "articles" tab.

Also if you happen to have a computer at home and feel like blogging feel free to ask for the URL (website). I will send it home with you and you can blog as much as you want over the holidays.

Looking forward to reading your blogs!!!

Mrs. M :)

Welcome back grade 5/6!!

I hope that you guys are excited about getting back into blogging. Remember to tell your parents all about it, and invite them to take a look when they are around a computer. With it being on the internet they can access it from any computer with an internet connection - that includes your home, a friends home and the public library.

Task #1: Finish the following thought as a comment to my blog:

Winter is...

Task #2: Please Sign In and answer the following prompt as an article.

Speaking of winter, let's create a list of all the things you like to do in the winter and with that list explain why you like to participate in each activity.

Ex.) Sledding - because it is fun when I go over jumps and fall

off the sled.

Try to come up with 5 things you like to do - they can be indoor or outdoor activities.

Once you are done log out, and put your computer to sleep. Remember I need to check the entries before they are posted.

I want to know your opinion!

Once you have logged in give your opinion on the following:

What do you think of school uniforms? I know that we don't have school uniforms, but maybe one day you will attend a school where they are required. Do you think uniforms are a good or a bad choice. Make sure you tell me the reasons for your opinion. See the example below to clarify.

School Uniforms.

I think that school uniforms are a great idea! Students wouldn't have to worry about choosing what they are going to wear in the morning if we had uniforms. No one would be able to make fun of or bully each other if everyone had to wear the same thing. It would be important to give each student at least 5 uniforms so that laundry could be done on the weekend. Also some school gym attire would be nice.

Now let's hear your opinion!

Story Starter:

You know the drill. I will start the story for you and you need to finish it. Feel free to go on forever. If your story ends up being really long you may need to make it a "to be continued" so that we are able to get through everyone in the class. Feel free to add to your story on your own time or during our next blogging time.

Here we go:

I was walking through the forest when I came across a deep dark cave. I have spent many days wondering in the forest and not once noticed this cave. I paused outside the entrance wondering whether or not I should enter and explore...

Blizzard!!!

Extra, extra read all about it - we are in for a blizzard.

As many of your know we had some blustery weather yesterday that eventually turned into a blizzard. There are many people who wish and hope for a SNOW DAY every year, but here in Regina we rarely get one.

Task 1:

In the COMMENT section - List four things you would do if it was a snow day. You would have the whole day to yourself. What would you eat for lunch; what shows/movies would you watch?

Task 2: LOG IN

Describe what a blizzard is like. Pretend you are explaining a blizzard to someone who has never been in one before.

Don't forget to mention the wind, snow and cold weather.

Enjoy dreaming about snow!

A new month has started and with it comes lots of change. Speaking of change...who can make the most changes in our school? Well Principal Keyes of course. He is looking for a "mini-me." You job today is to write a letter explaining why you would make the perfect "mini-me." You do not have to look like Mr. Keyes but you do have to have some great ideas for the school.

Your job would be:

- be the principal when Mr. Keyes is away.

- set up fun school functions

- monitor the teachers to be sure that they are doing a good job

Now in your letter be sure to explain why you think you would be good at these things.

Have fun!!

PS. Title this "Dear Mr. Keyes,"

Hello All!

I am so glad you toughed out the blizzard to make it to school today! It is really snowing hard, so I can imagine what it was like trudging through the snow.

First I would like you to read any comments that you find within your blog. I commented on everyone's letter to Mr. Keyes. If you can not remember how to check your comments let me know and I will give you a hand.

Secondly, log in and write about the following:

Free Write - you are welcome to write about whatever you are thinking, feeling etc...

OR

What would life be like if you were the size of a BUG? Has anyone seen that movie Antz?? Well I recently watched it and was wondering what it would be like to be a bug. You can write this as a story "The Day I became an Ant," or just give your thoughts on what it would be like.

Happy Blogging Everyone!
