Before attending today's ITL workshop, I honestly never thought about blogging or how it could possibly be used with elementary school students. After listening to David Warlick present "Redefining Literacy for the 21st Century" and hearing directly from two teachers who use blogging with their students as part of the writing process, I now see how valuable blogging can be.

A Writing Community

A 3rd, 4th or 5th grade class might choose to use Blogmeister with their students to post writing/poetry. Putting student work on blogs gives the students an audience other than their teacher or classmates. Students tend to care more about their work when they know their peers have access to their writing and are able to comment about their postings. A great way to up the ante in terms of developing writing skills.
