Too Many Tomatoes!

Article posted April 21, 2009 at 04:01 AM GMT0 • Reads 251

"Your garden is a mess!" said Gary.

"Yes it is" said Miss J. "What are we going to do about it kids?"

"Let's clean it up!" shouted the kids.

So we did.

"What a lot of tomatoes

-

We looked at our pile of tomatoes and decided to sort them into

different piles.

"Some of our tomatoes are green" said the kids, "and others are red. Some of our tomatoes are squashed, what are we going to do with those?"

We made some headings and started our sorting.

What are we going to do with all these tomatoes? asked Miss J.

"Let's eat the ripe ones" suggested the kids.

"We could make some tomato sauce" suggested someone else.

"Good thinking" said Miss J. "WE could ripen the other ones on the window sill and use them when they are ripe."

Sliced Tomato Day.

Tomato Sauce Day.

We found a really good receipe for tomato sauce. It was called

Dads Favourite Tomato Sauce. We read the reciepe carefully and gathered the ingredients.

"Can you make tomato sauce in an electric frying pan?" asked Miss J.

" Let's give it a go and find out". said the kids.

We got the tomatoes we saved out of the deep-freeze and made a start.

Then it was time to peel and cut the apples and onions.

-

" I need a very brave person to peel and cut up the onions" said Miss J.

"I'll do it " said Monique quickly.

Next, we added the sugar, the cider vinegar and then the worschester sauce.

Into the pan it all went and then along came Daniel.

Our sauce boiled and bubbled and filled the room with a delicious smell. Soon Dads Favourite sauce was cooked.

Next came the Kitchen Whizzzzz adventure with Connor in control.

Finally the sauce was done. Time to eat it. We had it on sandwiches and biscuites, on sausages and fruit.... we had it on everything.

Here are our thoughts about our most wonderful sauce.

We still had lots and lots of tomatoes left.

"What can we do with them now?" asked Miss J.

Lets havs a Sandwich day... you know... sandwiches with tomato on them" suggested the kids.

"What a tummy filling ides" agreed Miss J.

Here are our thoughts about our scrum diddly umptious sandwiches.

Hungry Frogs

Article posted May 9, 2009 at 10:48 AM GMT0 • Reads 49

We called our frog "Sweetie Pie" and he eats anything that fits into his mouth. It has to be something alive and he is always hungry.

Small snails, crickets, grasshoppers and flies all go down well.... and so do other small frogs.

Catching flies turned out to be quite hard soooooo we decided to grow our own.

What a disgusting smell but what fun.

Monarch Butterflies. Egg to Butterfly.

Article posted May 16, 2009 at 10:23 AM GMT0 • Reads 73

We had lots of ideas about monarch butterfly caterpillars. We decided to watch our butterflies very closely. Soon we were watching eggs ... then caterpillars... then chrysalis' and then butterflies. Some of our ideas were challenged. We asked many questions and searched for answers.

We watched our chrysalis' hatch and develop into strong butterflies.

"Let's draw them" suggested Haylea.

"Good idea" agreed Sequoia

..... So we did.

Insides on the Outside

Article posted June 18, 2009 at 07:10 AM GMT0 • Reads 55

When we went to the library, we found some books about our body.

The pictures of the things inside us were really interesting. We had lots of questions.

Where is your heart?

What does your heart do?

Where are your lungs?

What do your lungs do?

Where is your stomach?

What does your stomach do?

What happens to your food and where does it go?

We highlighted the key words in our questions and found them in the indexes of our books. We found the right page and listened to Miss J. read. We listened carefully.

We sorted our information under our questions...

We made our own graphic organizer to help answer the "where is.." questions.

We decided to ask an expert about our other questions. Our friend Chris from the Life Caravan helped us.

We were very excited about meeting Harrold in the Life Caravan.

" He eats weetabix for breakfast, lunch and tea" said Chris.

We decided to find out about healthy eating so we could give ourselves and Harrold some good advise about what to eat.

"Can we draw Harold?" asked the kids.

"Absolutely... and here is the paper" replied Miss J.
