Smart Kiddies

Article posted September 4, 2010 at 11:45 AM GMT0 • Reads 50

We will soon be using www.smartkiddies.com.au. Smartkiddies.com.au is an educational website where students can practice their skills. Recently, the site was upgraded to include language arts.

I have created an account with a unique password for each student. Students can access materials from home. In the future, we will use activities in class, provided we have I.T. resources for each student.

Information will be going home soon concerning how to use www.smartkiddies.com.au safely.

Visit the site here: www.smartkiddies.com.au

Week 3 Homework:

1. Vocabulary

Please complete your “cher/zhur” sound words vocabulary work in your vocabulary booklet.

Select 10 words and write a sentence for each word

O:  Create a mind-map/web with “cher/zhur” sound words at the centre. Use your dictionary and thesaurus to connect new words that share this sound but aren’t on our list!

2. Text Type: Poetry

First read the following poem from Beatrice Schenkde Regniers. Next, perform it for your family for oral practice! Finally, write your own original poem about spelling rules, punctuation rules or other grammar concepts (verbs, adjectives...). For inspiration visit http://www.canteach.ca/elementary/songspoems31.html !

                                    Good Handwriting

If you are wise

You will organize

You handwriting always

To be the right size.

The shape is important

Round and neat

Using your hands

Not your feet.

 (Beatrice Schenkde Regniers)

O: Visit http://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/stories/broken-mirror-black-cat-and-lots-good-luck  and listen to: The Broken Mirror, The Black Cat and Lots of Good Luck. Listen to the story, do the preparation task, listen to the story again, then try task 1. Try task 2 for further practice!  It’s a great site to know for grammar review and test taking practice! Free and safe!

3. Math Strand: Expanded notation

Then, write the following numbers in expanded notation form:

   a) 2,354,693    b) 6,786,432    c) 2,098,021    d) 4,563,796   e) 5,000,001
