One day I went to Mexico it was my second time going. One week later my dad’s friend asked if we wanted to go hiking to the volcanoes. I said yes because it was my first time going up there. The day that I was going to the volcanoes I was so excited. That morning I went to my dad’s friend’s house. When I got there he was getting out his rifle. I asked him why he needed his rifle and he told me that on the way up there, there are many dangerous animals like bobcats, mountain lions, rattlesnakes and many more. When we were on the trail there were lots of nice plant and trees. When we were on the volcano of ice it was so cool I could see the whole ranch. It took almost four hours to get to the top. We ate lunch there and spent time. Then it was getting late so we went home. When we got home we were so tired. So that was my trip to see the volcano of ice.

Halloween

Article posted November 8, 2007 at 07:47 PM GMT0 • Reads 60

On Wednesday October 31, 2007, I went trick or treating in my neighborhood. There was a scary house so I asked my friend Alex if he wanted to go and he said yes. When we got to the scary house these guys had three buckets of candy. The guy that was giving out the candy grabbed the candy with his two hands and put it in our bags. When we left that house Alex's bag ripped and fell in the middle of the street but the good thing is that he had an extra bag so we put the candy in another bag and we left for another house. That house was scarier then the first one. There was a kid at the door and when you told him trick or treat he told you to go inside the house. A guy came out and screamed boo=http:// Alex and I got scared and when the guy was done scaring us a little girl gave us some candy. Alex and I left scared and went to three other house. At the other house they did not open the door. When we were walking we saw this kid dressed up like a vampire his teeth were so big! It was 8:30. I had 30 minutes left to get candy. We were getting lots of candy. The houses were not that scary and lots of people were leaving. My friend Alex asked me if I wanted to home and I said yes because it was getting late. So we went home to eat some candy.

What I'm Thankful For

Article posted November 16, 2007 at 11:38 PM GMT0 • Reads 75

The most important thing that I’m thankful for is that I have a home to live in because other people in the world don’t have homes.

Other things that I’m thankful for are that I have food to eat, I have a school to learn at, that my parents have good paying jobs and that I have a good teacher to learn from.

Finally I’m thankful that I get most of the things that I want because other kids are poor and don’t get any thing.

One time I was it, all of my friends ran from me and I could’t find them. They were hiding really good. When I was looking for them I heard a noise up in a tree. Cesar was up the tree. I threw the ball up in the tree and hit him. I started to run fast. Cesar started to chase me. I got on the slide and when I was going down Cesar got on too and hit me in the head. It was hurting a lot. That’s the day I got hit in the head with the ball.

Thanksgiving Feast

On Tuesday our class had a Thanksgiving feast. We had lots of food like turkey, cod, salmon, venison, duck, bread and other foods. The foods that I liked the best were the turkey and the cod with lemon. When the class was eating Mr. Crosby was taking pictures of students. Also Mr. Crosby took a picture of the turkey when it was almost gone. I was so full but we were not done eating. We still needed to eat pie. Then we went to recess. Mr. Crosby said that when we came back from recess we could eat the pie. When we came from recess they passed out the pie. The pumpkin pie was so good. I wanted to eat more but we could only eat one piece of pie and I was full to. That was the Thanksgiving feast our class had.

My Big Gift

Luis

One Christmas Eve when I was at my aunt’s house I was waiting so we could open presents because I wanted an X-Box. Most of the time I was checking out the presents. Then I asked my aunt if we could open the presents. Finally she said yes. She called everybody to the living room. When they were passing the gifts out I was the last one that got my presents. I got like ten presents. The last present was the thing that I always wanted. It was an X-Box. I was so glad that I got what I wanted.

Breaking In

Luis

I would never have believed that someone had broken in our class room.

When I was in line Mr. Crosby told us the news that someone had broken in our classroom. When I heard that I thought in my mind about how it looked and the noise it must have made when they broke the window. When I came inside the class I was looking around and there was glass on the floor and one of the blinds had a hole in it was that where the rock went through.

Then when we were in our seats Mr. Crosby showed us pictures of the glass and how other things looked. One of the pictures that my teacher showed us was the rock perched on a leg of a table. At first I was worried that they had taken the laptops. In the end I felt glad that they didn’t take the laptops.

Have you always wanted to be invisible? Well I have. Let me tell you about it.

I always wanted to be invisible. But the bad thing is that we can’t. Only if I could make an invention that makes you invisible. Why I always wanted to be invisible is because I could do stuff like scare people, go inside classes and scratch the chalk board. So it could make a squeaky noise. There are more things that you could do.

Also if you always wanted to be invisible leave me a comment.

Have you

had a relative come from a different country? Well I have. Let me tell you about it. One day my Mom told me that my grandma was coming to visit us. When my Mom told me that my grandma was coming I was so excited. Then I asked my Mom when is she coming and she told me in July 26. I was so happy that my Mom told me that news. The day that my grandma was coming I could not wait until it was 8:00 at night so we could go pick her up from the Reno Tahoe International Airport. When it was 7:30 my Dad told us that we were leaving for the airport. I saw a plane that was about to land. I thought that it was the plane that my grandma was on. When we got to the airport we went inside. We were waiting for my grandma. I saw people coming out and I saw my grandma. I was so happy that I saw her. Maniac Magee

In class we were reading a book called Maniac Magee. It was a really fun and interesting book. Maniac Magee is a boy that cares about others. Maniac is an orphan kid because his parents died in the famous crash of the P&W Train. When Maniac’s parents died he went to live with his aunt and uncle. His aunt and his uncle didn’t like him. So one day he ran away from home. People say that it took him a year to get to a place that is called Two Mills. When he got to the town he was running through the East End where the blacks live. When he was going along his way he met a girl. Her name is Amanda Beal. In one of her hands she had a suitcase. Maniac thought that she was running away like he was. Maniac stopped and said hi to her. There are more things Maniac did. I learned in the book Maniac Magee about how to be a good friend and how to respect others.

Try to read the book Maniac Magee to see what happened in the whole story.

Snow Day

Luis

On my winter break I went to my uncle’s house in Sun valley. When I was at his house I went out to the front yard to play in the snow. When I stepped in the chilly snow it came all the way to ankles. As soon as I stepped in the snow it went inside my shoe it was so cold. The next thing I did was that I built a snow man. When I was making the snow man I looked at the next door house. I saw the old lady that lives there she was trying to clean her drive way so she could take her car out. It looked like she needed help so I went up to her and asked her if she wanted me to help her she said of course. I went back to my uncle’s house and grabbed a shovel and went back to her house. When I was helping her I thought that it was hard because there was ice. Then we were done the lady could take her car out now. Then I went back to doing my snow man.

Going To The Movies

Luis

One day my friend that lived next door went to me asked me if I wanted to go see a movie. I said yes. I asked him who is going to take us and he said my mom. When we were on our way to the movies we were planing what movie we were going to see. When we got to the movies we finally were going to watch Shark The Third.

Then when we had our tickets we went inside. We got a large bag of popcorn, soda and an icy.

The next thing we did was to go in the room that the movie was on. When we were sitting down the movie was not on so I asked my friend if he wanted to have a contest of who could get a brain freeze by our ices. My friend lost because his brain was hurting. There was this funny part of the movie when this women that was locked in this room hits her head in he wall and brakes it but there are more walls. When my friend and I saw that we were drinking our soda and we started to laugh oh boy! The soda came out our nose.

I was very embarrassed because other people saw as so we left home thinking what happened that day.

Getting Our Class Picture

Luis

One day our class went to TMCC to get our picture taken for a magazine for teachers.

I really liked that idea of taking the picture in TMCC because it shows us where we are from because out side are lots of sagebrush.

When we were in this hill in TMCC the photographer was setting us up to take the picture pretending that we were using the laptops in a group. Also my teacher was taking some pictures to.

Then when we got back to school the photographer came inside our class and took pictures to. When I was working in my laptop she came next to me and asked me to pretend that I was typing a story. At last she had what she wanted for the people that are going to make the magazine. The cool part about it was that she took lots of pictures.

Special Anniversary

Luis

To day is our special anniversary.

Last year on this day was when Mr.Crosby brought Celest into our class by using this software named Skype.

Celest has leukemia. That’s why she can’t come to school.

Why I think Skype is important is that poor kids who don’t have enough schools can go to school by using that software. If we donate laptops and internet. Also

You can use skype in many way. Our class uses Skype to see and talk to many class and people around the world. Like one time we skyped with a class in Florida. They are fifth graders like us.

Today we had a lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse is when the Earth and the moon pass together.

When I went outside to see it I didn’t see anything because the clouds were covering the the moon.

The next tine I went outside the sky started to change. It was getting chilly outside so I went inside.

Then I went outside again the moon was half white and half black. It was coldrer but the good thing is that I was wearing a coat.

The last time I went out the moon looked like if I had taken a little peace of a cookie.

I really like seeing that lunar eclipcse. This was the first time I had seen one.

The speed of light is the fastest thing we know. Light could go seven times around the world in one second.

Our rockets travel at about 18,000 mph. To go to Alpha Centauri it takes 158,500 years to reach Alpha Centauri in a rocket. Even light takes four years to get to Alpha Centauri.

The things I learned about the sun is that it’s a star. A star is a big ball of burning gas.

I have learned lots of things about space and the important things about it.

The War

We had just sat down on the school bus that was taking us on our field trip when the bus driver stood up, turned around and in a loud voice said, “ We are not going on the trip you thought we were. Your class has won a trip to a very special place.”

The next thing we knew some kind of gas started to spray from the ceiling and we all fell asleep in our seats. When we woke up hours later we found out we had been taken to the army. The bus driver told us to get of the bus. So we did. I told my friend that this was going to be awesome! Not really. We had to meet the people from the army. They were going to show us how to shoot a gun and how to use a knife. Then two weeks later we went to war. I was not happy about it. When we got to the spot were the captain was we set up camp to rest for tomorrow. when I woke up we got dressed up and got our guns. When we were in the war almost all the kids in my class were killed. Then the war was over we had won. I was glade that I was not killed. But I felt bad for my friends that got killed. The next day we left to school. And we lived happily ever after.

The Eye Bird

Luis

I was walking home when I saw a bird in the distance flying in my direction. As it got closer I notice it didn’t look like any bird I had ever seen. It kept flying towards me and to my amazement it zoomed right up to me and landed softly on my shoulder wasn’t sure what to do. I thought it was cool, but it also made me very nervous. Then it bent its neck to look me straight in the eye and suddenly he opened his peck and took my left eye. I laid in the floor almost dying. The bird wanted my left eye so it could give it to a witch that didn’t have her left eye. I was about to cry but I didn’t. I got up and chased the bird around. The bird flew even higher. I looked for help with my right eye but nobody was there except two little boys running around. I asked one boy if he knew where I was. The little boy didn’t have an eye to. So then the bird came back down and I got it. Then the bird gave me my eye. Then I gave the boy its eye to. He got really happy he went to tell his mom. She was missing an eye to but I didn’t know what to do so I saw a eye in the floor and put it on for the mom Then I left home. Suddenly I woke up it was tie for me to go to school I was dreaming. Two weeks later it happened again. This time it wasn't a dream.

Going To Marsopolis

Article posted May 16, 2008 at 07:48 PM GMT0 • Reads 124

On Wednesday morning May, 7, 2008 was the day I was going to a field trip called Marsopolis. That day in the morning I was making my lunch that had to weigh 22 oz. It was kind of easy because I had a paper of how much some foods weighed. Because in my class one week before Marsopolis we had to bring a 4 oz snack so we could get ready for that day. I made two sandwiches took two small drinks and a snack to eat in the morning if I got hungry. When I was done making my lunch I put it in a plastic bag so it wouldn’t add alot more weight. After that I put my lunch in my backpack to get ready to go to school.

Then when I got to school and went inside my class, people were already there weighing there lunch to see if it was 22 oz. I had to get in a line to weigh my lunch. When I was done weighing my lunch it weighed 28 oz I was 6 oz away from 22 oz. The next thing I did was to put pencils on journals that we were going to take with us. We already had agreed who was taking our lunch. The girl in my table Jazmin that had the job to Carry the food, put the food in her backpack and journals too. When I was siting at my table my teacher asked me to go see if the bus was here so we could go. The bus was there. I came back and told him. Then he asked us to get our systems that we made in class. When we were going up the bus it looked like the bus driver was kind.

Then when we were entering the Livestock Event Center I was excited to meet the people that we had to worked with. When we got in this big room there was a sign that said welcome to Marsopolis and other signs that had the name of the colony. The first thing we did was to go and leave our systems in a table that had our school name. Then I heard a man named Mr. Bryant he is in charge of the place. He was talking into a microphone he asked us to go sit in the middle of the room because he was going to tell us where we were going to go make our habitat. He was calling one colony at a time. When he called all the colony's we had to go and meet up with the other people we were going to work with. Then when everybody was there we had to see how we were going to do the habitat and the sizes that the sides and the top had to be. When we knew how the sides were going to be we started to work on it. We were holding up the plastic and putting it together we were taping the sides. Then when we had all the sides and the top put together. We made a tunnel with a fan and put it together so it could go up. It was cool how it went up. When we had the chance to go in the habitat I was drawing on it and I was laying down.

Then it was time to go eat. I was so hungry. When they told us that we could eat I ran to Jazmin’s backpack and got my lunch out. We had to eat outside our habitat. All of the people in my group were eating in the same place. I had fun eating because people were trading food with others and talking. I liked eating with them. I mostly liked all of my food that I had it was good. When everybody was done eating Mr. Bryant called every one so we could sit in the middle of the room. He had something to tell us. He told us that half of the people were going to see rock videos while the other people showed there systems to the people in there group. I had to watch the rock videos. Some of them were funny. Some of them I didn't like. We had to watch the videos until the others were done. The kids did a good job on the videos.

When it was my turn I went to our table and got my system to go present it. Our system is transportation. I took my transportation system to my habitat to show it to other people.

When I was inside kids had cool systems. I liked them all. When it was my turn to show my system I was nervous. I was thinking that the kids wouldn’t like our system but they liked it. I liked the way that the kids explained what was what.

Then when we were done with those things we went outside and play so the the tunnel people could do there job. When we went outside our class sat down in a line so we could play the game telephone. That game is fun. A kid that knows a little English messed-up in a word so we were getting it wrong.

Then we had to go in because we were going to go through the habitat. When I walked in it look so cool because all the habitats were put together. Then Mr. Bryant asked us to make two lines so that we could go through. The two lines were so big because there were lots of people. When it was my turn to walk through it was so cool because it look like if it was never going to end. I keep getting in line lots of times. It was really fun going through. Later the buses started to come to take classes back to school. Our class was waiting for the bus to take us. A girl told Mr. Bryant that our bus was here. So we got ready to leave. When I was sitting on the bus I was thinking of the great moments I had. It was like 4:30 when we came back to school. That was my day at Marsopolis.

NOW YOU FINISH

LUIS

I had nothing to do one day and was really kind of bored, so I went outside and started to walk around the neighborhood. I spotted the friendly dog from next door in his yard playing with a ball. The ball squirted out of his mouth and shot into the street. The dog ran after it just as a car came along and Bam! the car hit the dog. My heart was pounding in my chest as I watched the dog land in the street and the car speed away! I knew I had to do something to help! I ran to the dog and saw that she was still alive and breathing. Her eyes opened and looked at me. I could tell by the look on her face that she was scared, in pain ad wanted help. So...

I took her to a animal hospital. They said that they couldn’t do anything. So I took the dog to my house. I found out that one of her bones were broken. I laid in my bed thinking what I was going to do. I had an idea I could take care of her. The door dell rang. It was the owner of the dog. He said that he was going to take the dog with him. I was sad that this happened. Three mouths later the dog was well. I always went to vest the dog. I bought her bones. I really enjoyed play with the dog. One day it learned how to do tricks. The dog and I went in the mornings to the beach for 30 minuets. Then two years later the dog and the man moved to another city. I never saw the dog. Even I never new the dogs name. I always remembered the dog and thinking what was his name.

Chapter 24

Luis

In the book Tree In The Trail in chapter 24 a wagon train is going up a big and rocky hill called El Raton. The word raton means rat.

The people in the wagons had to throw away stuff of their own because the oxen couldn’t hold that much weight.

When some of the wagons were going up, rocks fell on the other wagons that were down.

Men and oxen were exhausted. They had to climb higher than a man named Buck’s rifle could shoot.

Finally they were on the top of the hill.

Then they went on with the trail.

That was what mainly happened in chapter 24 in the book Tree In The Trail.

Not Blogging

Luis

Today our class found out that our blogs are locked. I felt sad about that.

Blogging is important to me and others. The reason I like to blog is that I can improve my writing.

Students should blog because if they are not good at writing like I was they can get better. Also there are some reading involved. The good thing about this that we can learn how to be careful.

This is what I thought if could not blog no more.

The Tea From China

By: Luis

Today September, 25 , 2008 we tasted tea from China.

The whole reason that we tasted tea today was because my teacher went to Shanghai China and bought some tea to bring.

The name of the tea we had is called Ling hoa Jasmine.

I thought that the tea was good.

The flavor of the tea is Jasmine. The color of it was like red and orange put together. The color of it was like a apple. The tea tasted like if it didn’t have sugar.

We also ate Biscuit. They have a very good taste. It smelled like cinnamon. Also it taste good when you dip it in the tea. When I was dipping the biscuit in the tea it fell in. The other thing we ate was a fortune cookie. All of that was really good.

Staying Safe On The Internet

Staying Safe On The Internet

Address

Having your address on the internet is dangerous because someone that is looking for you can hurt you or kidnap you.

It is not good have your address on the internet for everyone to see, because a person might go to your house and do something bad to it like throw eggs at it, break in and other things. That’s why it’s not good to have your address on the internet.

Telephone number

Also If you have your phone number posted in the internet is also dangerous because if some bad person sees it they might get the number and investigate your information and they might find out your name.

These are examples of why it’s bad to have your phone number on the internet. Someone might also say that they are your friend Sam and they tell you to go outside, and when you come out they are going to get you. Or they can be calling you and telling you bad stuff that you don’t like. That is why is is not good to have your phone number on the internet.

Page on the internet

The other thing is having a page on the internet. That is way dangerous because someone will try to contact you and tell you that they are ten year old girl, but they are a twenty year old guy that is trying to kidnap you. They will be try to get more information so they can get you. Those are some things to be safer on the internet.

Letter

Article posted October 14, 2008 at 06:18 PM GMT0 • Reads 96

Dear Senator McCain and Senator Obama, When one of you becomes the president you should stop the war. I think you should stop the war because lot’s of soldiers and innocent people are getting killed. Also kids are seeing lots of violence. The bad thing about the war is that we are spending lot’s of money on it, and we don’t have enough money for schools, new roads, food and other things.

The other thing that the next president should do is to let the people know that are on the border to check cars real go because the people that are entering our country they might be bring illegal drugs to sell. The reason that drugs should not be allowed, is because people are selling it to others and people that do that stuff they will be addicted to it if they are doing it all the time, and they will want more and when they don’t have any more something bad might happen to them. They might be in the hospital for a long time.

Those are the things I think you should do.

Alan And Us

Article posted December 3, 2008 at 10:22 PM GMT0 • Reads 94

Today 11-25-08 we Skyped with a man. His name is Alan Levine. He was one of the people that went to China with my teacher.

Our class was talking to him and asking him questions  what's it’s like in Iceland, and he was asking us questions too.

The town that Alan was near is Selfoss. Reykjavik is the capitol of Iceland where 80% of the people live in Iceland.

Alan showed us a dog that is a sheep dog. Also he told us that they use the dog to herd their 18 horses. Then I asked him if he had ridden a horse and he told us that he only did it two times in his life.

One of the things I learned about Iceland is that it is closer to the North pole than it is to the equator.

The name of the money that they have is called kroner.

Alan also told us that there’s a volcano near them and that a big volcano erupted and was going to destroy a city so people that lived in the city sprayed water from the ocean and wet the lava so it could cool down. That way and the lava would not go to the town.

So those were the things that Alan told us.

Me A Reindeer

Article posted December 19, 2008 at 07:35 PM GMT0 • Reads 304

One snowy day I was making a snow man I was thinking about what it would be like being a reindeer and flying with Santa.

Then when I was done I was looking at my snow man when it started to move. A man wearing white and red clothes appeared and told me that he was Santa Claus.

I asked him why are you here? Then he responded and told me that one of his reindeer got hurt when they were training. So he asked me if I wanted to be a reindeer so I could pull his sleigh at midnight Christmas Eve. So I said yes.

After that he gave me an apple and told me to eat it. When I was done with the apple I suddenly appeared at the North Pole where Santa lives. Then I saw him I asked him why was I here and he told me that I had to wait here so I could become a reindeer so they could show me how to do the work.

I was hungry and I saw hay where the reindeer are so I went to check it out. While I was looking at it I grabbed some and put it in my mouth and started to eat it.” It’s good!” I said.

Suddenly I felt something coming out on my hands. HOOVES!  I said in a loud voice. T  hen I was a reindeer.

After that a small elf saw me and started to get near me. Then he put a harness around my head and took me to the stalls and put me in one I was next to Donner the reindeer.

The next day another elf came to the stall and took me out and started to show me how to do things.

Days passed and I knew most of the things that the reindeer know so they had us  line up so they could tie in the sleigh us  so we could practice pulling the sleigh. I was making lots of mistakes so they took me out of the group and put me in my stall.

Then I had to try again and this time I was doing well and the elves were surprised that I had done well. I was very glad that I had done it.

When we were all lined up I was next to Donner and I was going to be next to him on Christmas Eve too. Everything went well. Now we were ready.

Bam! The doors opened. People were screaming with joy!. I heard while I was coming out of my stall. “This is it” we all said, “It’s the day we pull Santa’s sleigh”. I was nervous while the elves were getting me ready.

Beautiful bells were being put on me and the other reindeer too. Then we were all lined up and the small elves put a harness on all of us and then tied us up on the sleigh.

Everyone was quiet and they started to sing the song Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. It was so beautiful because all the little ones were jumping with joy because we were ready to go.

“Santa is on the sleigh!” Vixen shouted out loud. Santa was checking if everything was in the sleigh and shouting “Ready to go”. We all were jumping. Then Santa said the magic word. We started running first and then we were in the air. We were flying! Santa was saying to the people MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!

“Man it’s cold”, I said to Donner We were going fast until we got to the first house. It was hard to stay still on the roof.

The house that we were at didn’t have a chimney so Santa magically made one and went down it with a bag full of toys. We were just waiting on top of the roof. When Santa came out the chimney disappeared. When we left we came across a tall tree and my big antlers got stuck to the branches. All the reindeer were trying to get me unstuck. They did but we were kind of late. It was the same the whole night.

Then when we were done the sun was out so we went back to the North Pole.

Santa was talking to me and telling me that he was thankful for what I had done for him. He lifted his hand and put it on my head and suddenly I was back home. Everything was back to normal.

A kid in my class asked her what was her favorite NBA team and she said it was the Lakers.

One of the things we asked her was if she ever had broken something on her body. She said yes. One of the things she told us that she had broken was some of her fingers. So that was how the day went.

I learned about Apollo 11 that Neil Armstrong and Aldrin Buzz  were the first ones to set foot on the moon. While Armstrong and Aldrin were on the moon Collins orbited above.

The take off was in July 16,1969. The spacecraft landed on the moon at 3:17 p.m. EST on July 20, 1969.

The important thing of Apollo 11 is that Neil Armstrong and Aldrin Buzz were the first person's to walk on the moon. Another important thing is that they were also the second all-veteran crew in manned space flight history.

Water Supply

Article posted May 15, 2009 at 06:40 PM GMT0 • Reads 404

Our system is water supply. I’m going to tell you how our system works. First we have a remote that controls the crane that we use to get ice. The crane has two sides one side has needles to grind the ice and other end has vacuum that sucks the ice the ice into a tub. The tub has a heater under it which is used to melt the ice. Our system has solar panels to make the heater work. We also have pipes that takes the water out to where it is needed. We also have a couch witch is used for the person in charge of the crane to rest while the ice is melting. We made skids on the bottom of the tent to transport it where the ice has not been used. We especially made the tent black for the light to get attracted to the solar panels. There is also a string to pull the tent easier, and that's how our system works.   [LINK]
