How Many Left on the Bus?
Article posted March 8, 2008 at 07:28 PM GMT • Reads 125
The grade ones have been working really hard at adding and subtracting numbers 1 through 12. Today they had to put their listening and problem solving skills to the test. I told the students a story about a bus driver picking students up and dropping them off. At each "stop" the grade ones had to decide whether to add or subtract, and write a corresponding number sentence. The students were very successful and next week we'll be learning about measuring.

The grade ones and twos have been busy learning all about dinosaurs. We have all found it very fascinating to think that creatures like this once roamed where we live now! Yesterday the ones and twos were creating their own dinosaurs--considering how they would protect themselves, whether they would be a plant eater or meat eater etc.. After creating their dinosaur they had to make either a trace fossil or body fossil; we had some very creative pieces of work!

On this day the grade 1's were working with a partner and grouping their manipulatives in groups of their choice. As a class they decided that counting by 10's is the best because it's faster!!!

This week we got a special presentation on how to utilize a new learning tool! It's called "Expanding Expression" and it comes with these neat beads that this student is holding. Each bead represents a detail that we need to include within our writing--it is a nice visual as well as a reminder! It comes with a nice little verse as well: "Green-group, blue-do, what does it look like, what is it made of, pink parts, white-where, what else do I know?". The students did a blog this week, choosing an object/sport/game/animal of their choice. Please check out their blogs and the details they included! Hope you enjoy!!
