Our Students

We are a fifth grade class at The Lovett School in Atlanta, Georgia. "Blogging" is a new activity for us, but we plan to use our blog to offer literary suggestions to our friends and peers. We engage in a great deal of independent reading, and in the process, have come across a variety of what we consider to be excellent books. We are anxious to share our suggestions and insights with you. You'll find that we rate amazing, awesome, page-turners as "Five Star" books, and books that didn't exactly light our fire as "One Star" books. Although these reviews are only our opinions, we hope that our suggestions help you in future experiences with quality literature!

This book is about a 12 year old boy named Luke who is a family's third child. In his country, families are limited to two children. Because of this, he has to sleep in the attic so no one can see his shadow, and he has to eat his dinner on the staircase because in the kitchen there are windows and people could see his shadow. One day, Luke was looking out the small window in the attic and he saw a girl through the window next door. Luke becomes very suspicious and wants to meet her to see if she is one of the shadow like himself. So one day he sneaks out of his house and goes to the house where he saw the girl's. When he gets to the back door of the house he knocks on the door. The girl sees him and gets scared, but then finally opens the door to let Luke in. When Luke gets in, he asks her if is was a shadow child like himself, and she says yes. He then starts to visit her house a lot, and sometimes has to hide away from her family members. Then one time when Luke visited her, she was on the computer, and she was chatting with other people on the computer. All of them were shadow children!! You'll have to read to find out what comes next.

When I read this book I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed it and I give it 5 stars.
