Number the Stars Review

Article posted December 4, 2009 at 09:28 PM GMT0 • Reads 107

Although you might not like WWII stories because they make you think of death and sadness, Number the Stars does not do that. You will actually enjoy it a lot.

This book was written by Lois Lowry. It tells the story of the encouraging resistance against the imperious Nazis overpowering Denmark by taking the Danish people's butter, milk, salt, sugar and many other ingredients to make good food. All they had was water, bread, and maybe cheese that they got secretly. They also helped the Jews escape from the Nazis and from getting put into the concentration camps.

Also, this book is about a family, the Johansens, that helps a Jewish family called the Rosens. This family includes, Annemarie, Kirsti, Uncle Henrick, Peter, and Annemarie and Kirsti's parents. The book also explains about the history in WWII, like how Nazis were on every corner, how the Jewish were smuggled into small boats toward Sweden because it was a free country, and how the Resistance Movement saved the Jews.

In my opinion, Number the Stars deserves an 8 out of 10. It is a good book because it teaches you the "experience of the holocaust" and that it's not always sad. It also shows good ways to outsmart the Nazis like with the typhus trick the mother used. Some extra facts that I found interesting are that Hitler killed over 6,000,000 jews and he tried to take over Europe

In conclusion Number the Stars is a great book and very "dive into" quality. I would recommend it for people 9 and up.
