The main thing about coral is that coral lives with algae. Coral is made out of polyps. Hard, or stony is one type of coral. Soft coral is the second type of main coral. The sea fan is another type. But the interesting thing about coral is that coral lives with algae.

The cool thing about under water is that lots of fish of all sizes and shapes live in reefs. A hole in the reef is a good home for an eel. Sea animals depend on reefs for food and safety. Some sea animals feed reefs. Reefs offer good hiding places. But the most impressive thing about under water is that lots of fish of all sizes and shapes live in reefs.

The valuable thing about where corals live is that coral reefs need certain food to stay healthy. They need the right depth of water. Both coral and algae need the same temperature water. They need healthy algae food. Heavy waves break reefs apart. But the great thing about where corals live is that coral reefs need certain food to stay healthy.

The bad thing about danger to the coral reefs is that diseases and humans hurt reefs. Coral reefs are very fragile. If the coral dies then the reefs dies. Boats and ships break off big chunks of reefs. But the most stunning thing about danger to the coral reefs is that diseases and humans hurt reefs.

The good thing about our valuable reefs is that the people wrote laws and rules to follow. Almost 25 reefs have been destroyed. The coral reefs will continue having homes and food. Many people try to protect them. More than half of them are hurt or damaged. But the loyal thing about our valuable reefs is that the people wrote laws and rules to follow.

Flying In The Air 100,000 Feet

Article posted June 4, 2010 at 09:53 PM GMT0 • Reads 138

Hi! My name is Priya and I am a balloon. I am just sitting in a old brown box. The box is really small and I am really squished. In this small box it's dark and I feel pretty lonely. I stayed in this box for 5 days.

DSC03485

I am trying to get out of my box so that somebody can see me and buy me. Wait I think someone saw me. I feel somebody carrying me and my box. I hope that somebody is going to buy me. I got bought!!!! Now I can fly in the air just like some of my friends have. Some of my friends told me that flying in the air would be fun. Now somebody is opening my box. I can hear that tearing noise like when people open things. I see light a little bit and it hurts my eyes!

DSC03486

I can feel cool air running through me. The cool air feels pretty good. I wonder what is going to happen next? Now my owner is taking me out of the box and I feel nervous. I look really wrinkled out of this box.

DSC03487

I can see the sky, it is all blue. It has a sun that is brighter than anything I ever saw in my life. The clouds look like ice cream and cotton candy and it makes me want to eat them. Now my owner is laying me down on this wet stuff and I got all soaked! The wet stuff is grass I just noticed that because I heard people talking about it.

I hope I get filled with helium because I don't want to explode! Hydrogen is flammable so don't put that gas in me! I am getting filled with helium but my owner that is a scientist is putting this tube in me and it feels unusual!

DSC05537

Now the scientist is taking off the horrible tube. It feels much better to get without that strange, awful tube!

Now they are tying me into a big knot. When they were tying me it felt like I was going to explode!!!

Now they are putting a rope on me! They are holding onto my rope really tight so I don't fly in the air yet.

DSC05560

Next they are putting a parachute on my head and it feels really tight. The scientist is putting payloads on my rope and there are 2 of them.

M4H03464

It has a GPS system in one and a camera that has a heater, that way the camera doesn't freeze.

Now they are letting me go. I am so thrilled! I am soaring in the air. I can see people from the sky, they look like ants. I can see people driving cars and going to stores.

Wait a minute I think wind is coming now!!! I am flying in all sorts of different directions! The wind stopped and I feel much better.

I am in the atmosphere. It is pitch black and I can't see anything.

IMG_2151

I feel really cold. I am getting really big and fat. I am getting lots of air in me now that I can't see my body. I think I am going to burst!!! I think this is the end for me!!!!! Good-bye world I will never see you again in my life, maybe!!!!! Suddenly POP! All this loud thundering noise is in outer space because I bursted into a million pieces.

My parachute is landing. I'm on the ground safely.

IMG_2223

Now I have to wait for my owner to come. 3 hours later My owner has come and he found me! I never told you my owners name until now and the name is... Mr.Crosby. He is going to hang me on the wall of his classroom. He is going to nail me on is wall then he is going to hit the nails with a colossal hammer! It is going to hurt a lot!!! Now he is putting me on his wall. I feel appreciated a lot. Well Thats The End Of My Journey.

Today on June 8 2010 was felid day. Felid day is a fun day, when you play games and eat popsicles. The first thing my class did was that we played a game called the scrabble shoe game. It is when you take off your shoe and then you scrabble them into a big pile. When my teacher picked the teams the team I was on won the game. The next activity we went to was a game where you have to run to a galloon of water. Then you put your sponge in the water then you run to your teams bucket and you squeeze all the water out then you give the sponge to the next person. We played that game four times and the team I was on DIDN'T win even one game! Then we moved to the stand that has popsicles! I had the color green and that was my favorite popsicles color. When everybody was done eating there popsicles we went to other games.

My best friend when I was five years old was a girl named Jannie she was kind, nice, and friendly. When I was five I used to suck my thumb even when I was sleeping.

Right now I want to be a doctor to save peoples lives before there injury's gets worst or if kids are sick I could give them the right medicine they need. My favorite toy is my Wii I like how the people that invented the games designed them. My favorite animal now is the snow-leopard and a dolphin, they are both beautiful animals. My favorite hiding spot now is under my brother and sisters small tiny bed. My best friend is a girl named Diya she doesn't go to my school but she is really pleasant, sweet, and friendly. Right now my favorite thing to do is play tennis, when I play tennis it’s so fun because you can play games like doge-ball tennis and other fun stuff.

When I Got Cut By Glass

Article posted October 14, 2010 at 10:29 PM GMT0 • Reads 185

One day I was at my house all happy and smiling when then it was night.  It was summer vacation when me and my dad where cleaning up the entire house. Then we came to my room, it was the cleanest and the neatest of them all. But then something dreadful happened to me! I got cut by razor, sharp glass on my bed! That was the frighting thing that has ever happened to me. I was so sad that I was crying all over my bed for 30 minutes. The other reason was because my cut knee was hurting a lot. I was bleeding all over my knee and my red, blood fell onto my bed. When my dad put water on my red, blood soaking knee it stung a lot. I needed one of those big band- aids that are huge. That night I felt like my knee was paralyzed but it wasn't. I will never forget this night when I got cut by glass.

When I Got A New P.S.P

One cold, rainy day my sister brought home the most fun thing you can ever play with in your life. It was a brand new... P.S.P! I was so beyond thrilled that I got a smooth, black P.S.P. My heart was pounding like a cheetah when it runs because I was so excited that I got a brand new P.S.P for a early Christmas present!

When I turned it on I was waiting, then the screen showed up. I was starting to see what was on there. There were really enjoyable stuff on there like, video games, videos, and you can even change your background to different colorful pictures. There was also Internet that you can you use! You can search the web and you can do other fun stuff.

I will treasure this P.S.P for a long time because my sister will go to college soon and I won’t get to see her that often. This gift is important to me because I love it a lot and the other reason why was because I got it from my best sister in the whole wide world.

One sunny, spring morning it was my 10th birthday. Everybody in my family woke me up and sang me the “Happy Birthday Song”. That was the best Happy Birthday Song I had ever listened to and it was also the funniest. Then my mom and my dad told me that we were going to the Coconut Bowl for my birthday party! I was so glad that we were going to the Coconut Bowl for my birthday party, that I screamed onto a soft, comfortable, pillow. Then it was 11:00 o’clock everybody got ready and then we left to go to the fun, enjoyable Coconut Bowl!!! Then we got there and the first thing all the kids did was playing in the big, play house. Then when we were done playing in the big, play house, we sliced both of my cakes open. Everybody that came to my birthday sang the “Happy Birthday Song” just for me. After we ate cake we had to leave and go home. Then I started to open all of my presents with my friends and family at my house. All of the presents that I got were great. I will never forget this night when I turned 10 years old and went to the Coconut Bowl for my birthday.

Priya's Thanksgiving

Article posted November 19, 2010 at 10:45 PM GMT0 • Reads 136

When it’s Thanksgiving day, my mom and grandma cooks delicious enchilada’s or we go to a fantastic restaurant. When my mom makes soft, saucy enchilada's the smell makes me more hungry. The food smells spicy, saucy, and most of all delicious. It looks soft for me to eat. It makes me want to take a bite of it already.

When my mom and grandma are making dinner I set up the kitchen table. After I’m done setting up the table I tell my baby brother and sister that its time to eat dinner. I also tell them to say “ Happy Thanksgiving ”. When I’m done eating dinner I’m really stuffed, or I can’t take another bite on my plate.

After everyone waited for a couple of hours we eat creamy pie or we eat tasty ice cream. When we are finally done eating food I go in my room with my brother and sister. After we changed into our P.J we watch T.V in till 10:00. Then we all go to sleep. That’s what I do a Thanksgiving.

When my aunt and my sister entered the door to Six Flags, we saw a bunch of kids eating, playing, and riding on rides. I first went to the Six Flags pass booth, then I went to all the kid rides because big roller-coaster's scare me. “But if the roller-coaster's small, then I will go on.”

But then I arrived to this medium sized roller-coaster! “ When I saw people going on that ride, a baby was on it!” So then I went on, and it was called the Cobra. “ It was called the Cobra because the front seat had a snake head.”After I screamed my head off, I felt wobbly, and dizzy! After that, I wanted to go on that ride again! But after that I felt proud of myself. I over came my fear and enjoyed the roller-coaster after all.

“When I Went To Tennis Class”

Article posted March 3, 2011 at 10:20 PM GMT0 • Reads 170

One hot, summer day, me and my best friend were taking Tennis Classes. My dad dropped us off over at the Tennis Courts.

The first thing we did, was go to the manger's office to give him the $100 dollar check that way I could play tennis for a whole month. After that my dad told us to sit on the green, fresh, grass then he left. Next all of the students came, so then the coach said that we had to run 2 entire laps around 2 full size tennis courts! So then the coach splited us in groups of 4 and 3's.

Later on we got to play tennis games, like... dodge ball tennis, and we got to make pyramids with tennis balls. Then we took a small break and drank lots and lots of solid, cold, ice water. “ That was really refreshing”. After we were done with our break, we got to play actual tennis for about 15minutes! Last but not least all the students who came had to go home. But everyone who came had fun time. Everyone said good bye and the coach said “see you all tomorrow”.

My Dream On A Train

Article posted March 11, 2011 at 08:35 PM GMT0 • Reads 200

This story will be a fantasy story. It will be about a little girls dream going on a train and having an adventure of her life time. She will be going on a journey to a new place that nobody has ever heard of.

Hello my name is Priya and I am five years old. It was a sunny, spring, morning, all of the neighbor hood kids parents were at work. The kids were staying home with a mean, babysitter that made them do homework and clean up there entire house!

All of a sudden time froze, the babysitters were frozen like a solid rock. All of the kids came rushing outside, to see who or what made time froze. It was an ordinary train that stopped time. All of the kids came running to the train to see if anyone was in there.

We could see inside the clear window that there was a train driver, then the man opened the door and said do kids want to hop in and come to Destiny Island. All of us said “ what is that place, we never heard of that place before”! The man said “ it's a place were its always green. A place were you can play and have fun, you can also do anything you want to do without having mean babysitters that boss you around all the time.”

We all yelled and said “ can we come can we come please!!! The man said sure you can just hop on right in. But then he told all of us that he had drop us off back here in Reno at 9:00colck that way are parents don't weary about us. We all yelled alright, but its 12:00clock and we only get there at 3:00clock.That's not fair we only get 6 hours to play there! NO the train driver said, we can just get there with my speed button that will make the train go faster. We will get there in no time, and you guys will get to play there for 9 hours and will get to have fun!

“I said what is your name train driver, the train driver said you can call me Mr. P.J.” “I told all of the kids to call the train driver Mr. P.J, they all yelled o.k.”

So everyone hopped in, and sat down on the comfortable, cozy, seats. There were even people that gave us snacks, like a plastic cup filled with cold milk and Oreo cookies that way we can dip it inside the cup. When everyone was done eating there delicious, snacks we were at Destiny Islands!

Everyone was so excited that we were at Destiny Island the place were its beautiful. Its a green land, with scented flowers. It even had a huge beach house. It had everything I could ever dream of, it felt like heaven. Everyones stomach was make rumbling noises, the noise sounded like clouds of thunder. We all were hungry so we ate lunch at the McDonald, the fast food restaurant. We all had Kids Meals and it was free so we didn't have to pay! “ But I didn't even have money in my pocket”, said Priya. So everyone rushed outside and ran all over the place and had fun.

I went on scavenger hunt and had a great time, I even won $100,000,000 for finding a rare golden egg. After that I went to the beach to make a sandcastle, and it was 6:00clock. We all only had 3 more hours to play. When I was done building my huge, gigantic, sandcastle it was 8:00clock!!! “ Oh know we only have 1hour to play know, Awww!!! We all went to a restaurant that was “Olive Garden” to have dinner. We all made our own creative food, and we even got to watch The SpongeBob Movie. Then it was 9:00clock we had to go onto the train and go home. We all made it on time and said thank you to Mr.P.J for taking us too Destiny Islands. We all ran into our house's and changed into our P.J's then brushed our teeth and went into bed before the babysitters would thaw out.

“All of a sudden I was waking up and all of what happened was a dream.” I know it was a dream because my parents were going and to work and said “grandma will be babysitting you for the whole day.” In my dream my parent were already at work and they left me with a mean babysitter. “ Maybe if I keep dreaming “My Dream On A Train” it might really come true.

So did you like my fantasy story. Priya's dream going on a train came true on her 6th birthday. She had an adventure of her life time. She even went on train with her family, for a trip to California. They all had a fantastic trip to California. They thought that they might go on trains every now and then.

When I Got My Finger Stuck Inside A Whistle

Article posted March 17, 2011 at 02:23 AM GMT0 • Reads 262

One summer like spring, morning, I was playing “ Camp” with my little baby brother and sister. We were pretending that they were the students and I was the leader in charge of them. I was wearing a whistle. I had a clipboard and wrote down my brother's and sister's names. I also wrote down a list about what to do.

We were putting up a Spider – Man tent. When we were done setting up the tent inside our house, we went inside and we were all crowded, and jammed. When we were about to sleep inside the tent, we thought that we will whine about each others feet going in each others faces. So we thought that we might just sleep in our bed rooms.

After that, we went outside and had a scavenger hunt. When they found all of the plastic eggs, we saw who was going to win, and it was a tie.

I kept blowing my whistle and said, “ It’s time to color in our coloring books!” We got the coloring books out, we got the crayons out, and started coloring. When I blew my whistle they dropped their crayons on the table. When I was checking their work they both just scribbled on the paper.

Later on in the day, I let them watch a movie. So I tip toed up into my room. All of a sudden I had this little, tiny piece of crayon stuck in my whistle! So I put my skinniest finger inside the hole and that finger was my pinkie. All of a sudden the piece of crayon came out and my pinkie was stuck in there, Ouchhhh=http://

It really hurt, I was crying and I was trying to get my finger out of the hole with soap, but it didn’t work. Then I came crying to my dad, and told him my finger was stuck in my whistle. All what he did was told me to calm down, then he just pulled my finger out. Then my Dad told me to not do that ever again. My finger was red and I had to put a cold batch of ice on my poor, red, tiny, pinkie. So a couple weeks later my finger was as good as new.

Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Tsunamis

Article posted March 25, 2011 at 08:57 PM GMT0 • Reads 184

Forces deep within the Earth can cause earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis.

Sometimes the plates get caught on each other, and can’t move. The energy and the pressure builds up. Then suddenly, the rocks will give away, and the ground shakes. Far above people feel earthquakes. Some earthquakes that happen are small and harmless. But sometimes the shaking is so strong that buildings will crumble, bridges will collapse, and large cracks will open inside the ground.

A volcano begins when the magma from deep inside the Earth comes out through a crack, from inside the Earth’s surface. When the magma reaches the surface it cools into a solid rock, often forming a mountain or island. Sometimes hot magma cools before it gets to the surface. It will harden into a solid piece of rock, plugging up the crack or hole where it had been seeping out. Hot gases inside the magma continue to press against the plug. The pressure is going to grow. Suddenly the volcano will explode! When mountains explode, they send tons of rocks rolling down. These falling rocks are called “ Landslides”. Clouds of ash and dust rise into the air during a volcano eruption. When ash falls to the ground it’s like snow. Large ash clouds can block out sunlight.

Tsunami waves are huge and they are caused by earthquakes or by volcanoes. Tsunami waves are the largest waves in the world. Tsunamis can be high as a football field. Large landslides caused by earthquakes or volcanoes sometimes fall into the sea, and make huge tsunami waves. Earthquakes and volcanoes can also happen in the ocean floor. All of the events can make a tsunami. Tsunamis seeped from where they begin, spread in all directions.Tsunamis can cross a ocean. Tsunamis travel super fast. Most tsunamis are one through ten stories high. “That might not sound very high, but it’s hard to imagine the power of this much moving water.” A small tsunami can destroy houses, streets, and entire towns.

During a large earthquake the ground shakes, destroying homes, and property’s. In an explosive volcanic eruption, liquid rock, ash, and landslides can cover whole entire cities. Tsunamis can cause billions of dollars in damage. Scientists are working very hard to be able to predict earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis in order to save thousands of lives.

One of the largest buildings in the world is called “The Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB)”.This is place where the Space Shuttle comes together as a complete vehicle ( a vehicle is a thing used for transporting people or goods). It was built for assembly and checkouts of the Apollo/Saturn vehicles and was later changed for the Space Shuttle program.

Balloon Chip Bag Experiment

Article posted May 3, 2011 at 09:06 PM GMT0 • Reads 249

Description: We are attaching a green party balloon thats filled up with little air (Thats about ¼). A blue party balloon thats filled up about half way ( Thats about ½ ). A orange party balloon thats filled up all the way (Thats about all the way “Full”). A Cheetos bag. Then we will send it up in outer space, and we will put 3 of the balloons and the Cheetos bag to the top of one of our payloads. Next, we will send the payload up over 100,000 feet on a high altitude balloon.

Hypothesis:

Green Balloon - My hypothesis is that the green balloon will expand and will grow bigger but it will not pop because it will just be a median size balloon.

Blue Balloon - My hypothesis is that the blue balloon will become larger and then it will pop because when it grows larger it will get more air and will expand more and it will not take it anymore and will just pop.

Orange Balloon - My hypothesis is that the orange balloon will develop more air and will pop because the balloon is developing more air and the orange balloon will already be a full size and will become more bigger and will pop.

Bag Of Chips - My hypothesis is that the bag of chips will not pop because its sealed tightly and will stay sealed and will just not pop open because the very little air in space will not be enough to make the bag of chips pop open.

What do you think will happen?

Balloon Experiment Results

By: Priya

Payloadtop

Results - What actually happened - The higher the Green Balloon went up it was big as the top of the payload.

But then the big large balloon popped and the Green Balloon was about to pop. When the balloon came down the Green Balloon went back to its original size, and it never popped.

Blue Balloon - My hypothesis is that the blue balloon will become larger and then it will pop because when it grows larger it will get more air and will expand more and it will not take it anymore and will just pop.

Results - What actually happened - When the big balloon went up higher, the Blue Balloon got so big

that It popped.

When the Blue Balloon popped the piece of it came off of the payload and flew somewhere. When we got the payload back there was only a tiny piece of nubbins of the Blue Balloon.

Orange Balloon - My hypothesis is that the orange balloon will develop more air and will pop because the balloon is developing more air and the orange balloon will already be a full size and will become more bigger and will pop.

Results - What actually happened - What actually happened to the Orange balloon is that when it went up higher it grew so large

that it couldn't take it anymore and just burst!

When we got our payload back, we had a large piece of the orange balloon.

Bag Of Chips - My hypothesis is that the bag of chips will not pop because its sealed tightly and will stay sealed and will just not pop open because the very little air in space will not be enough to make the bag of chips pop open.

Results - What actually happened - The Chip Bag went up high and it appeared to get a small hole inside it. It also let out some of the air inside the Chip Bag. But the Chip Bag didn't pop.

These are pictures that I think are cool.
