Dear Parents:
Our Winter Assembly is on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Students will be performing "Santa Claus Rock."
I am asking that students wear a Santa hat and black sunglasses (optional). I would also like for students to wear black, red, or white clothes. Dress clothes are preferred, but absolutely no logos (ex. North Pole or any other graphics). If your child does not have anything that meets the above description, they should come in their regular school uniform.

EXTRA CREDIT PROJECT – THE SCHOOL BOOK OF GOOD MANNERS DUE TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16,2012
During the colonial period, children had a book of manners that they had to study. This book made children aware of acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
Here is what you need to do…
It is your job to create a School Book of Good Manners or you can call it the School Book of Etiquette. The book should focus on behaviors and attitudes that pertain to the school environment. You should review and consider the PBIS expectations when deciding which manners to include in your book.
2.Brainstorm a list of good school manners and select 10 – 20 to include in your booklet.
THE SCHOOL BOOK OF GOOD MANNERS RUBRIC
5 points= contains a title page
5 points= contains an introduction
25 points= consists of 10 – 20 manners
2 points= proper grammar and punctuation
3 points= uses complete sentences
5 points= includes illustrations / colored
5 points= is neat and it evident that student put forth effort
TOTAL POSSIBLE POINTS= 50
3.The introduction page is a short summary that explains why you created the book. For example, why are good manners important and why did you choose to include the manners that you selected.
4.Whenever possible, please include illustrations that compliment each manner.
5.You may choose to create your booklet using Word processing or PowerPoint.
6.Work must be neat and written in complete sentences. A lack of proper grammar and punctuation will result in a lower grade.
7.All work must be handed in by Tuesday, October 16, 2012.
8.All work must be handed in. Please do NOT submit your work as a comment on this blog because it will not be accepted.
9.REMEMBER…I EXPECT YOUR ABSOLUTE BEST WORK!

ISAT TIPS - 4 MORE DAYS
Article posted February 28, 2013 at 02:02 PM GMT-6 • Reads 476
ISAT Tips for Students and How Parents Can Help
Tips for Students
üGet a good night's sleep the night before the test.
üEat a light breakfast (example: oatmeal, fruit and milk). This will help you be at your best for the exam.
üRead each question carefully before selecting your answer.
üIf you don't know the answer, use the process of elimination, and revisit it at the end if you have time.DO NOT LEAVE QUESTIONS BLANK.
üUse a pencil and scrap paper to work out math problems. Don't try to do them in your head.
üDon't second guess yourself! You probably know more than you give yourself credit for.
üRelax! If you find yourself getting uptight, take a few deep breaths and exhale slowly through your mouth.
üMost importantly, just do your best!
How Parents Can Help
üRegular attendance, being on time, good nutrition, and adequate rest are essential components for your student's successful academic performance.
üEnsure that your student eats a healthy breakfast. Avoid heavy foods that may make the child groggy and high sugar foods that may make the student hyper.
üAdd test dates to your home calendar; schedule appointments on non-testing days.
üTalk to your child positively about testing. Explain that tests are how teachers, schools, and districts measure how well they are teaching and how well students are learning. The results are used to improve education.
üProvide a quiet, well- lit, comfortable place for studying at home.
üBecome involved in your student’s education by maintaining regular contact with teachers, monitoring homework and providing books and magazines for your student to read at home.
üDon't place too much emphasis on test scores. Too much pressure can result in "test anxiety", a fearful condition where a student worries excessively about a test, losing confidence in their abilities and becoming very self-critical.
üEncourage your child. Students who feel good about themselves will do better on tests than students who are afraid of failure.
üAvoid disagreements and arguments the night before testing and the morning of the test.
Click on the link below and Check out this PowerPoint for additional tips, but ignore slide 5 (skip harder problems and go back to them later).DO NOT SKIP PROBLEMS!Students tend to forget or overlook these problems, so it is best to use the process of elimination and make your best guess. Then, if you have time, go back to those problems when you finish the test.

Ulises D. created his Book Recommendation using GoogleDrive. He was the first one to present his PowerPoint presentation to the class. Great job, Ulises D.
Your first Book Recommendation must be completed and presented by September 20, 2013.
You must schedule your presentation on the calendar located by the door.
Up to three people may sign up for each day.
Do NOT wait until the last minute to sign up because time is running out and time slots are limited.
Please be sure to "SHARE" (Google@CPS) your presentation with me at least two days before you are scheduled to present.
