The Library

Article posted September 9, 2010 at 10:33 PM GMT0 • Reads 188

There are many places I enjoy reading: Barnes & Noble, Panera, and even here at school. But, my favorite place to read is in my very own library. It wasn't always a library; it used to be a bedroom! Now one long wall is covered from floor to ceiling with oak bookcases overflowing with books of all kinds. No matter what kind of reading mood I'm in, I can find a book to fit it.

My library has soft yellow walls that make even the darkest day seem sunny. I can cozy up in my purple flowered overstuffed chair and lose myself in a mystery or history. I can even take a nap. If I'm in the mood for some background music, I can turn on my CD changer and find just the right music. Surfing the net and reading on-line are even possible because my computer is right there too. All in all, my library is almost perfect! I think I could spend the rest of my life in there... except I have to come out to eat!

Lost in the Well

Article posted October 14, 2010 at 05:33 PM GMT0 • Reads 265

It's taken me a while to decide what book I would be content reading for the rest of my life, but I've finally decided I could enjoy getting lost in "The Well of Lost Plots" by Jasper Fforde. This novel features my alter-ego, Thursday Next, and is the third book in the series. Thursday has been living in an unpublished book and when she emerges, she becomes embroiled in a series of unexplained deaths. While trying to unravel the complications, she meets such literary characters as Dickens' Miss Haversham. She passes through Wuthering Heights and deals with all manner of literary problems. If there's anything I like more that reading good literature, it's getting 'lost' in fun literature.

The Well of Lost Plots is the place where all fiction is created, so it would provide me with every conceivable type of fiction I could possibly want to read for the rest of my life. I could re-read my favorite classics and delve into genres I've never read before. I could read "Rebecca" one day and find adventure on "Treasure Island" the next. I could even enjoy a trip to Mars or some other far-off exotic place. Finally, this book appeals to me because it is literary fantasy at its best.
