Nina (Portman) is a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. When director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side - a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

My reading journal- 2nd March 2011

Today I read half of a GOOSEBUMPS book. It is called 'Haunted Mask'. The main character’s name was Carly Beth. She was an 11 year old student. Carly Beth was scared of everything and many people made fun of her for that. In school, her 2 friends had pulled a very dirty trick causing her to become the laughing stock of her entire school. Halloween is near, so she plans to get revenge by scaring her friends. She goes to a party store to get a mask. She buys an extremely scary mask.

I think this book is a bit childish for me, but still horror books are interesting. I think the mask she bought is going to get her into deep trouble and she might regret buying that mask.

After she buys her special mask, it seems to give her special powers, powers to scare. She scares everybody she knows and the mask somehow takes control over her body. She turns into a ravaging monster. She doesn’t know what to do, so she goes to the party store to ask the guy who sold her that mask at the first place. The shopkeeper explained to her that she was not wearing a mask. It was a real face that doesn’t have a body but needs one. So whenever someone buys a mask, the mask gets a new home. Carly was speechless and wanted to know how to take it off as it wasn’t coming off. The shopkeeper said that the only way it would come off, would be through love. She couldn’t think of a way to get the mask off, so ran home crying to her mother. When she told her mother the whole story, the mother thought to have a go at the mask and it easily slipped off. Carly was shocked, but then she realizes that the mask would only come off through love, so since her mom loved her, it came off. She never spoke a word about this to anyone.

I think the story was a bit abrupt and made me laugh a bit because it's childish. But since I like horror books, I Kind of enjoyed it.

4th March 2011-From The Files Of Madison Finn-Only The Lonely By Laura Dower

Article posted March 8, 2011 at 03:39 PM GMT0 • Reads 62

The book that I have started to read is called “From the files of Madison Finn- Only the Lonely’’.

The story is about a girl called Madison Finn who is suffering from loneliness and friendlessness. She is spending her summer vacation and she is extremely bored. While taking her dog Phineas out for a walk, she meets a very sweet girl called Fiona Waters who she wants to be friends with. However, she is scared that if she becomes friends with Fiona, she might end up forgetting her 2 best friends Aimee and Egg who have gone for summer camp.

I really enjoy this book because it reminds me of my summer vacations when I get extremely bored and feel friendless. I also miss my friends who have either gone abroad or gone for summer camps. Even though I know that I have plenty to do and learn in my summer vacations, I will always feel the void of them not being around me.
