I have started reading this novel named BRIDA by Paulo Coelho. Brida is just an ordinary girl who wants to learn magic. She, despite knowing that MAGUS, an expert magician, might not be the right person to learn from, still learns from him. Magus realizes that she is his soul mate.

This novel has a quite interesting beginning and once you start reading this, it will be hard for you to read any thing else. In the first chapter, a number of of details about the story are disclosed. I'm curious to know that what will be brida's reaction when she will come to know that Magus (who is twice her age) is her soul mate. This makes me laugh.

Brida has her first lesson and she is supposed to stay alone in the middle of a forest for a night all by herself alone. She tries to clam down and to be brave enough to stay quite and relaxed, but she just can't stop thinking about snakes and wild animals and ghosts.

Story is turning out to be more interesting. I am curious to know why Magus left her alone in the forest. Why such a difficult lesson in the very beginning?

The young girl gets so scared now that she doesn't care what impression she will make on any one and starts shouting, trying to call Magus, thinking that he will be nearby, but soon realizes that she is all alone here. She soon feels protected by a positive energy and doesn't realize that when she falls asleep. Magus meanwhile, wants to go to the girl but stops himself.

Here, the story seemed a little boring to me as it didn't have much important things. It did have one suspense that whether Magus was there for Brida or he was gone leaving her alone but it was later revealed.

Brida wakes up in the morning with a new lesson. She learns that faith exists in the dark night and you can strengthen it by filling it with things like scorpions, snakes or with protective presence. She goes to a bookseller who is not very famous and publicized among common people. She wants to learn magic through other easier ways.

Just don't know what to say because the spirit of the girl to learn about magic is appreciable.

One day, she approaches the owner of the book store telling him about the Magus thinking that it would raise her image higher and the bookseller might refer someone who could teach her magic. Bookseller gives her an address and a number curious to know why a man like Magus would teach a common person like her.

Brida should be focusing on one side. If she is already learning from Magus, she should not be involved in other such lessons.

Brida calls the lady and after a few days, she finally gets the chance to meet her. She is told to practice tarot cards daily for half an hour. The lady also introduces her to the system of soul mate. She tries to shuffle the cards trying to figure out what story the cards tell her, but she almost gives up and thinks to disappear and not go to Magus or the lady named Wicca.

Brida needs to concentrate on one side either Magus or Wicca in order to progress because here I can predict that she is getting double minded.

She gives a call to Wicca after she gives up the tarot cards shuffling, she gets disappointed and calls Wicca to tell her that she won't be able to come to her next week. But before she could get a chance, Wicca tells her to lay the cards randomly. Brida now succeeds and gets encouraged. She decides to attend her next class.

The novel is going completely opposite to my predictions, chapter after chapter, but this is the thing which I like in Paulo Coelho's every novel.
