Subtraction Word Problems

We looked at word problems taking away numbers.
First draw a number line,
then put the smallest number at the beginning and the largest at the other end.
56-8=
The first jump get to a ten, then jump in tens.
8 56
-----------------------------------------------
add 2 to 10 then add 40 to 50 then add 6 to get to 56.
Add the numbers up 40+6+2 = 48
It was tricky.
