Being Included

By: Alondra

Being included makes my life very happy, because when I want to play a game kids just let me and they say “Yes.” The kids make me feel good, but sometimes they make me feel sad, because the kids say that I don’t know how to play that game and they say “No.” Being included makes my life very happy!!!

My First Day Of School

By: Alondra

It was my first day of school and I was very shy with my classmates. I didn’t know most of the kids names. I only knew my teachers name and my friends names. Like about 5 days went by and a new girl came and I thought, “Is that girl shy like I was at first?” Then like 4 more days went by and that girl wasn't shy no more but another girl came and I thought “Is that girl shy like I was at first?” Then like 5 more days went by and no more new kids came and no body was shy.

Going To Outer Space

One day I wished I could go to outer space. I thought I would go to the moon, Pluto and to mars. It would be so cool if I did. I asked my mom how it would feel to go to outer space and my Mom said that she doesn't know because she’s never been to the outer space. So I told her if when I was big I could go and she told me that no because it was to dangerous. I asked her why and she said because I might get lost. I went to my room and imagined getting lost in outer space. So I thought it wouldn't be so fun getting lost in outer space and after that day I stopped thinking about going to outer space.

Not Going To School

By: Alondra

One day I wished there was no school. Then I asked my Mom, “Mom do I have to go to school?” My Mom said, “Yes, you have to because you need to learn.” I went back to my room and thought about what my Mom had told me. But I didn’t know the next day was spring break. It was the next day and it was 7:30 a.m. and that was the time that my Mom always waked me up and she hadn't waked me up jet. So I woke up my self. I changed my cloths and went to tell my Mom why she hadn't waked me up. So she said it was Spring Break. I was amazed when I heard that. I told My Mom that I didn’t know it was spring break. I passed that hole spring break in Disney Land. It was fun!

Grace Corrigan’s Visit

By: Alondra

Grace Corrigan came to our class. She had a daughter that was an astronaut. Her name was Christa McAuliffe (Christa was the teacher in space). When Christa was going to space the Space Shuttle exploded! That was very sad. Grace Corrigan was very nice, that’s what I liked about the day. Kids in our class got to ask questions and Grace got to answer them. She talked about Christa's life, her husband and Christa’s children.

Summer Activities

By: Alondra

This summer I would like to go swimming. Last summer I went swimming and I learned to swim. I know how to swim and dive. Diving is harder than swimming. Before you dive you need to know how to swim. In most of the pool they don’t let you dive because they think you might hit your head at the bottom of the pool, but I still do it because it’s not possible for me to hit my head because I’m to small to hit it. There is another thing I would like to do during summer. I would like to go to the move theaters with my family and watch Shrek The 3rd when it comes up. If I go to the move theaters it would be my second time going. I want to go because I like when they turn off all the lights and you could only see the big screen. That’s why I want to go. There is something else I want to do during summer and this is the best. I want to go to art classes because I like to do art. Almost everyone says I draw good; my mom my little brother my big brother and my dad , and also all my friends. I’m very proud of me.

Which Picture I like more

By: Alondra

I like the new one, the one that Celest is in our class because Celest is right in our room. In the new one we could talk to Celest and we could hear her. In the new one we are missing some students too. Paloma, Trezelle and Maija are missing. That’s sad. I really like the new one.

My Wish

One day I went to my mom’s room to watch TV, it was on a channel about Chinese people. Then I thought it would be fun to watch Chinese people do things. So I stayed to watch. Then I saw this woman eating a good looking soup. So I thought in my head that I really wanted to go to China to eat that soup that the lady was eating. So I kept watching. I saw a bunch of kids in a big, big class room. Then I wanted to go to China to learn Chinese so I could talk with all the people there in China. I wish I could go to China to make new friends so I could have friends from other places not just from Nevada.

On Monday a camera crew came to our classroom to film how we use Skype. Celest was on her computer. The camera crew set up some lights. It looked even brighter. The camera guys asked some students some questions. They also asked Mr. Crosby some questions. I was glad they didn’t asked me any questions because I am very shy. They filmed Mr. Crosby using Google Earth. Google Earth is a place on the internet. It looked very cool!! I wonder what people will say after they see it? In Google Earth we went to Disney Land, Disney World and the White House. The White House looked very cool and white! There were 3 guys that came to interview us. Their names were Bill, Gary and Ray. Bill was the one with the microphone. Gary was the one with the camera. Ray was the one that asked the questions. Later on they went to Celest’s house to interview her there.

I am going to tell you how my Halloween went. On October 31, I went trick or treating. I went with two of my brothers, 3 friends of my big brother, my Mom, my Mom’s friend, her daughter and me. My Mom didn’t put on a costume. I was a devil. My big brother was a doctor zombie. One of my brother’s friends was Jason, the other one was just a zombie. The other one didn’t have a costume. I felt really excited when I was about to leave. When I went outside, I thought that everyone was going to laugh. I went outside and no one laughed at me! One of my brother’s friends went to call his mom. A moment later his mom came dressed as a queen! While we were on the road, the woman dressed as queen called her friend so they could come trick or treating with us. They were in a car. All of us went trick or treating at our apartments. When we were almost done my Mom decided to go to Sand Pebble Apartments to trick or treat there. The woman said that she didn’t want to go, so my Mom and everybody else got in the car to go trick or treating at Sand Pebble Apartments. Only 9 people were left. We drove for 15 minutes. When we got there everybody started knocking. Some people didn’t even open the door. We took a long, long time. We started at 6:30, and ended at 9:45. When we came home, I dropped my candy on the floor. It was a lot!! I almost screamed, but I didn’t. Right after I saw the candy I started to eat it.

On November 8, 2007, we were Skyping some 8th graders in Maryland. They were asking about Celest, but the bad thing was that Celest wasn’t in class. What I liked about Skyping was that the students were on a big screen. But the bad thing was that we didn’t have enough light. They sent Mr. Crosby some videos that they made so we could tell them if we liked the videos. Almost all the videos were great, but some were not really great. November 8, was really cool for me!

One day my little brother brought in a ladybug to the house. He had it in a box. My Dad got bored of the ladybug so he said, “Why don’t we go to the animal shop to buy a pet?” “I don’t think my Mom would like to buy a pet.” I said, “Mom, do you mind if we buy a pet?” “I don’t mind, but you are going to give it food.” she rippled. I went running to tell my 2 brothers and my Dad. “Dad, my Mom said that she doesn't mind!” “So maybe tomorrow we will go.” My Dad said. It was the next day when my Dad came back from work. I asked him if we were going to get a pet. He said if we get ready. I went to get my hair brushed. Everybody els was ready. We went to the car. When we got there we got in the store. We were looking at the colorful birds. Next we were looking at the hamsters. I looked at the price. They coasted $3.99!! “Dad can we buy hamsters? They are cute and cost a little. Please!” I begged. “Please Dad!” both of my brothers begged. “Ok, if you guys say so.” My Dad agreed. My big brother went to get somebody to get the hamsters out. I got a brown and white one. My little brother got a black and white one and my big brother got a tan one. When we got home we put them in a tank. I brought the food and water. Then they lived happily ever after.

On November 20, we had a Thanksgiving Feast in our class. We had to eat whatever the pilgrims ate in the first Thanksgiving. We had to eat turkey, cod, salmon, venison, duck, bread, green beans, corn, pumpkin pie, cranberries, raspberries, blackberries and ginger ale. In the old days they drank beer, but we can’t drink beer at school so we had to drink ginger ale. Before the turkey was really done we went outside to see it, and smell it. It smelled more like chicken than turkey to me. It looked orange with brown and black. After the turkey was done Mr. Crosby brought in the turkey to cut it up. It smelled so good. After the turkey was cut up everybody started to eat. I went up to get food like 3 times because everything was so good! November 20, was the best Thanksgiving I’ve ever had!

Do you have a bike? Well I’m going to tell you how I got my new bike. It was one sunny morning, when the sun was bright, my Dad told my 2 brothers, my Mom and me that we were going to the park. I got my roller skates out, and my brothers got their bikes out. When we got to the park, my brothers and I began to play on the swings and on the playground. After that my brothers played on their bikes, and I played on my roller skates. I was very sad because I couldn’t go as fast as my brothers. I went sadly to ask my Dad if he could buy me a bike so I can ride with my brothers. He said yes! It was the next day, and I felt really excited because I was going to get my bike! My Dad came back from work. He asked me if we were ready to go get my bike. I said yes. Then we got to the car and drove off to the store. When we got there, there was a lot of bikes. Some were ugly and some were ok. I saw a pink and purple one. It was cute but it said Barbie on the side. I don’t like Barbies so I didn’t pick that one. There was another one that was pink and purple too. It didn’t have anything on the sides except stars, so I picked that one. My Dad bought the bike and took it home. After that day, I always went outside to ride my new bike.

Have you ever had somebody break into your home or to your class? Well, I’m going to tell you about that horrible day. It was one morning when I got to school, almost every kid in my class was squeezed together in front of the classroom’s window. I heard my teacher telling the students that somebody had broken into our classroom. I was so surprised at that moment! When we got into the classroom, there were still little pieces of glass on the floor. After we settled down, our teacher showed us some pictures of the broken glass on the floor on the inside and on the outside of the classroom. The glass looked like pieces of broken ice thrown on the floor. When I saw those pictures, the first things I thought were: who were the one or ones that broke into our class? Did they stole something? There was stuff piled on the teachers desk that they had token out. I couldn’t believe somebody could do that! That day was horrible!

Do you want to hear about my pet? My pet is not what you would call a big pet. One day I asked my Dad if we could get a pet. He asked me what kind of pet did we want. I answered him, “ I don’t know, maybe a hamster or a bird.” “Ok, a hamster sounds good.” he said, “Ask your brothers if they want one.” I went running to ask my brothers if they wanted a hamster. I came running back to tell my Dad the exciting news. “Dad, my brothers said that they do want a hamster.” “Ok, so we will go to the store tomorrow.” my Dad said. It was the next day and we went to the store. We went to the hamster section. I picked a brown one, my little brother picked a black one and my big brother picked a tan one. We took them home and put them in a tank. The next day I called my friend so she could come to see my hamster. For the next few weeks my friend came to visit my hamster, and each day my hamster got bigger.

Have you ever thought of dreams coming true? One night, I was dreaming that I could control peoples minds. Let me tell you what happened in my dream. One day, I had gone to school, I had a watch that if someone put on the watch, I could control them with a little control I had. I put on the watch on my friend’s hand, Gissel. We went to recess to play on the bars. I controlled my friend so she wouldn’t beat me. Guess what? She didn’t beat me at the end! Then, all of a sudden, I heard someone yell my name! “ALONDRA!!” It was my Mom that had woke me up. After I got changed, I got my own watch and started to put the watch on my little brother's hand. I got out the TV controller, and started to press buttons. But nothing happened. I took off the watch from my little brother’s hand, and went to ask my Mom if my dream could ever happen. She answered me “You are so crazy!”

Are you nice to other people? In my class, we read a book called Maniac Magee. Maniac was very nice to other people. Let me tell you a part about the book. His parents died and he had to live with his uncle and aunt. His uncle and aunt didn’t get along, so Maniac ran away. He found a family to live with, the Beal’s. The Beal’s were black, and Maniac was white, so people around there didn’t like Maniac. The people around there didn't like Maniac so they wrote ‘Fish belly’ on the Beal’s house. Maniac felt sad that somebody had done that. Maniac ran away from there too. That was very nice of Maniac. Maniac ran away so the people wouldn’t hurt the Beal’s. What Maniac did is going to help me be a nicer person. That book thought me that to be a nice person, is better than being a mean person. I hope you read that book and take the experience I had.

Every student began to yell “Cool!” I was very shocked! The next day we got our laptops out. The color of the laptops was light green. Our teacher showed us how to turn them on. After they were turned on, our teacher told us to go to the internet. I was thinking in my head, they got internet too, the school must be rich. My teacher showed us some games that you could play on the laptops. Their were some math games too. Then our teacher made us write a story. After we were done, we had to type it up on our new computer. The rest of the day, we spent our day playing and working on our computers.

I wonder if it could snow all year. At school, when I went out to recess, the ground was covered with snow. The snow was like a blanket on the ground.

My friends and I began to built a snowman. The snow was freezing cold. I was the one that made the big part of the snowman. We had three round balls made out of snow. First we sat the big ball on the ground, then we put the middle part on the top, and last of all, the head. There were only 3 more minutes left, so we had to hurry.

Then the bell rang to go into our class rooms. The only things that we had forgotten were, the eyes, the nose, the mouth and the hands.

The next recess the snowman was gone!! We had to start all over again. When the bell rang, we only got the bottom part and the middle part done. I would never forget that amazing day!

It was Saturday morning and I had to get ready to go to Lake Tahoe. Lesly’s mom came to pick me up.

When we got there, we got our life vests and swam far away.

Later, Lesly and I built a house out of sticks.

One hour later we had to eat.

When we were done eating, Lesly and I started to collect cool rocks.

Three hours passed and we had to go home.

I had never had a trip that fun!!!

How To Edit Your Story

Article posted January 30, 2008 at 11:14 PM GMT0 • Reads 117

Alondra

I’m going tell you how I edit my story so maybe you could do it the same way I do.

First of all you have to care about what you do. Here comes the editing part.

First you write your story. Then you read what you have written carefully. After that, if you need to, take out words. Read each word pointing with your finger. When you are done with that, you spell check your typing. Then you read your story again to see if your story sounds right. Pointing with your finger you point to each letter in the beginning of each sentence to see if they are all capitalized.

After that you can print the paper out to check it. You have to read your story more than 1’s.

Find each name and check if the first letter in the name is capitalized. Then you put your finger on every word and read it slowly.

Double space your story so you could see your story better. When you are done with that you read your story out loud so your ears could “see” it.

Well guess what’s next? Nothing because you are already done!

My favorite part about blogging is that people leave me comments.

I think students should blog because they could get better at reading, writing and typing.

But guess what? They have just blocked my classes blogs! Can you believe it? Well I do! I thought that it was just so cruel! Well I hope they put it back on because, I LOVE TO BLOG!

The first thing I learn about outer space is that stars are in different colors. Did you know that stars are balls of gas? Well they are.

Another thing I learned is that a star is bigger than a planet! I used to think that planets were bigger than stars.

Our teacher showed my class a video about planets and stars. It was really cool!

Hey!!! If you know something about planets and stars comment me. Please leave your URL so I could comment you back!

Light goes really fast! Light goes at 186,000 mps. That’s 669,600,000 mph!!! That is around the Earth 7 times in 1 second. That is really fast! I know all of that because we are learning about outer space. It is really fun to learn about outer space.

Alpha Centauri is a star. Did you know that Alpha Centauri is the next closest star to Earth? Well it is. At 18,000 mph it would take 158,500 years to reach Alpha Centauri.

Now, the Sun is very interesting. My teacher told my class that the Sun is a star. I didn’t know that. I didn’t know that the Sun was a big ball of burning gas.

Jupiter is the biggest planet compared to Pluto.

Learning about outer space makes class time really fun!!

Lunar Eclipse

Today we are going to have a Lunar Eclipse. A Lunar Eclipse is when the moon covers the sun and it gets all dark. Well today we are going to have one.

When it was time that the eclipse was going to happen, I went outside to watch it. But it was all cloudy. All I could see were clouds!

Halve an hour later I went outside to see if the clouds had left. But they still had not gone away! So I looked for the moon but I saw nothing. So I gave up.

The next day at school my friend Gissel told me that the moon just looked all red.

So I didn’t worry anymore.

This is a comment I left on Mr. Upton’s class blog in Australia because his 3rd graders blogs have been blocked.

Dear Mr. Upton and parents,

I am a student in Mr. Crosby’s class in Sparks, Nevada, USA. I am sorry that your blogs are blocked, but it’s all about being safe. Blogging helps me to write, spell and a lot of other things. Blogging is all about writing, spelling and reading. I hope you get your blogs back soon!

An Awesome Trip

We had just sat down on the school bus that was taking us on our field trip when the bus driver stood up, turned around and in a loud voice said, “ We are not going on the trip you thought we were. Your class has won a trip to a very special place.”

The next thing we knew some kind of gas started to spray from the ceiling and we all fell asleep in our seats. When we woke up hours later we found out we had been taken to Disney Land.

We all started to scream. The bus driver told us to stand up. We all stood up and got out of the bus.

There were rides everywhere! “Go and enjoy!” the bus driver told us , “But I want you by the bus by 6 ‘o’ clock!” So we took of.

The first thing I did was that I asked Mickey Mouse if I could take a picture with him. Then I went with Minne Mouse and asked her if I could take a picture with her.

I went on many rides and they were all fun. It was 6 ‘o’ clock and I had to get back to the bus. Many kids were already by the bus. We got on the bus. Again some kind of gas started to spray from the ceiling and we all went to sleep.

Many hours passed and I woke up. I found out that we were back at school again. I was so glad!

The Bird

I was walking home one day when I saw a bird off in the distance flying in my direction. As it got closer I notice it didn’t look like any bird I had ever seen. It kept flying towards me and to my amazement it zoomed right up to me and landed softly on my shoulder. I wasn’t sure what to do. I thought it was cool, but it also made me very nervous. Then it bent it’s neck to look me straight in the eye and suddenly I was in another place. I looked around and saw that I was in a park. I got very worried because I had never seen this park before I walked around a little more, then I saw that nobody was at the park! I was alone! Suddenly I saw 50 more people. But they were really robots. They were brothers to the bird. The robots were in a big group, the I saw my family in a group. The bird was still on my shoulder. My family looked so bad like they had been hit a lot. I ran to them and asked them if they were all right. But they didn’t answer because they were robots too! Suddenly I herd someone yell my name! I woke up. It was only a dream! I was so happy!

Skypeing With Our Partners

Article posted March 27, 2008 at 10:12 PM GMT0 • Reads 296

Alondra

Today was awesome=http://! That’s the only word I can think of!! My teacher assigned me and and a boy in my class a story of Harris Burdick. My partner was Jairo. A teacher in New York assigned two girls in her class to be in the same story with us. Their names are Melinda and Shavani. They are really nice. But you can’t even imagine how cool it was. To tell you the truth, I can’t even imagine how cool it was=http://

Here is the story. My class and I started taking notes about pictures that didn’t have a story. We had to write the story to one picture with our partners in New York. 2 weeks passed and it was the day to go on our Google Docs. Google Docs are a page on the internet the you can communicate with other people.

On the first day we used Google Docs it was kind of weird but it was cool at the same time. Now came the day that we had to see each other on Skype which is also awesome. It was my partner's and my turn now. I was so anxious to see my partners in New York. As I got closer to the computer I was thinking in my head, am I going to do something wrong? I don’t know what my partner was thinking but I know that he was anxious too.

Now I was right in front of the computer and in front of the girls in New York. They looked so different from what I thought.

First we started to talk to each other and introduce each other, but we had a difficult time hearing each other. I could see them well but not hear them.

What I liked about it was that I got to meet new people. What I didn’t like about it was that we couldn’t hear each other very well. My teacher just told us that tomorrow we are going to do it again! I can’t wait!!!!

Falling Of My Bike

One day I was riding my bike with my two brothers and I fell of my bike. Here is how the story goes. “Can we go on our bikes?” my big brother asked one early morning. “Where?” asked my Mom. “ Just somewhere around here.” my brother answered. “Ok, but I want you 2 back by 6:00. OK?” “Ok.” me and my brother answered. We got out our bikes out of our balcony. Me and my brother rode our bikes around the neighborhood. It was almost going to be 6:00. We only had 25 more minutes. It was 6:00 and we were far away from home so we had to ride our bikes fast. We started to ride fast home, when all of a sudden I fell of my bike. My brother kept on going until he heard me yell. He stopped really fast. He came up to me and saw that my leg was stuck to my bike. He tried to take out my leg but it was to hard. So I told him “Wait, I think I could take it out my self.” So I tried to take out my leg and guess what? My leg was free!! I was so happy. Me and my brother rode home together. I was so happy I didn’t brake my leg or anything bad happened!!

Going To Marsopolis

Article posted May 16, 2008 at 07:40 PM GMT0 • Reads 119

Alondra

Going to Marsopolis was cool. First we had to make our own lunch. It had to weigh 22 oz. At school we were practicing by bringing snacks to school. I found out that some sandwiches were 4.0 oz. So if I packed it with lettuce and ham it would weigh about 22 oz, plus the drink.

At school we had to weigh our lunches and make them weigh 22 oz. People who had more than 22 oz could give their food to people who had less than 22 oz.

My teacher gave each student a journal so they could write stuff down like ‘did you like the walk through’ and stuff like that.

When we got on the bus I rode with my friend, Gissel. Me and my group had to put our system in a storage under the bus.

When we got to Marsopolis I was really scared because I was seeing more than 500 kids from different schools. I just stayed by my teacher almost all the time.

When the guy told us to go find our place me and my group couldn’t find our place. We kept on looking until... their it was. We saw more than 2 kids already that were in our group. 2 girls and 1 boy. We started measuring the length of the plastic. Later on 2 more girls came and 2 more boys came. The 4 more kids that came weren’t actually helping.

What went well was that we had all the plastic we needed. The biggest problem that we had was that the fan kept unplugging and the habitat kept on going down. The hardest thing to do was tape the corners of the habitat. Everything else went well.

When we had to present our system they told the number 2 kids to stay sited down. We are number 2 kids because we are OME2. Their was kids that were like VAM1 or something like that. All the number 1’s had to go present their system first.

We were watching rock videos. They were made by kids. Some were kind of weird and some were awesome. Let me tell you one of the wired ones. They sang twinkle twinkle little star except they changed the words to facts about Mars. I liked one the had the rhythm to the song ‘we will we will rock you’ it also had facts about Mars.

When it was our turn to present our system I got really nervous. I also thought that our system wouldn’t fit through the doorway of our habitat. Actually it did fit. Their was a teacher with us. It was Mrs. Wolters she was very nice. In our group we were the last ones to present our system.

Later on we went outside to play games. First we played Telephone. The first person told the next person in line a phrase in the ear. You keep on passing the phrase until the end of the line. When we played it the real phrase was Mars atmosphere is carbon dioxide. At the end we said it was Marsopolis.

Later we played duck duck goose. That was better than Telephone. The first person I tagged was a boy named Miguel.

He tagged me and everybody started to yell “Mush mush!” like 5 times. I got really shy.

Later we went back inside. All the habitats were put together. We had to walk through all the habitats. Inside it was so cool. When we were done walking through every habitat everybody was pushing.

Later people put down the habitats and took them to the trash.

The ambulance had to come 2 times. The first time it was outside with a girl. The second time it was with a boy that got a bump on his forehead.

Later we went home.

P.S. We left Marsopolis like at 4:35.

Do you know what a Golden Lion Tamarin is? I barely learned about what it is. It is a type of monkey. It is also a very small type of monkey that it is almost the same size as a squirrel. The tamarins are getting extinct. They eat fruit, seeds, nuts, bird eggs, insects, frogs and snakes. Their are some Golden Lion Tamarin in the zoos. A Tamarin marks it’s territory by rubbing a body scent from it’s body into the tree limbs. Tamarin are feed by trays raised to the height of their nesting boxes.

Do you want to know about grizzly bears? At our school we are called the Risley Grizzlys.

I like bears but my favorite bear is the grizzly bear. They are awesome. They do a lot of things like a human. I sometimes wish I could be a grizzly bear, but sometimes not because I know I could get killed. Here are some true fact about grizzly bears:

They have sharp teeth.

They eat fish and berries.

They hibernate.

They have paws.

They have fur.

They are mammals.

They sleep in dens.

Their is a lot of other things about grizzly bears so let me rest so I could keep on going........................... Okay here we go.

In winter they sleep in underground dens.

While mothers sleep baby cubs are born.

Grizzly bears are playful.

Their first meal after hibernating would be a carcass of a dead moose or a caribou that didn’t survive the winter.

Grizzly bears eat things that we don’t like.

I had nothing to do one day I was really kind of bored, so I went outside and started to walk around the neighborhood. I spotted the friendly dog from next door playing with a ball. The ball squirted out of his mouth and shot into the street. The dog ran after it just as a car came and BAM! the car hit the dog. My heart was pounding in my chest as I watched the dog land in the street and the car speed away! I knew I had to do something to help! I ran to the dog and saw the she was still alive and breathing. Her eyes opened and looked up at me. I could tell by the look on her face that she was scared, in pain and wanted help. So I...

ran to her owners door and knocked. I waited for a while but nobody opened. I went back to the dog and thought about what I should do. I had an idea. I went to my house for the phone.

I called the vet and told them what had happened. They asked me what street it was and I told them, “11th street.” They told me to stay there and wait by the dog. I waited until the animal help came.

One person was helping the dog and another person was asking me questions about things like, was it a male or female in the car and what color was the car and other things. When they were finally done they left and took the dog with them. Later the owner came and saw that his dog was missing.

He came to my house and asked me if I knew anything.

I told him the story. He went driving to where the vet had taken the dog. Days later the neighbor came happy walking with his dog by his side!!!

New laptops For School

Last week we got new laptops. They are MacBook computers. They are awesome. They are white and they are small. While we were on vacation someone broke into our our class and robed a lot of laptops. So the school district had to buy new ones for our class. Our teacher thought that it was not fair to just give laptops to people who did not have a laptop. So he decided to give everyone a piece of paper with a numbers 1 through 24 I think. So he said that whoever had 1 through 11 would ge a new laptop to use at school. I was so excited to get one when I saw my number was 1!! My friend witch didn’t have a laptop didn't get a new one. I felted so sad for her. I had one already and I got a new one. I had to give my old one to another kid that didn’t have one too because his was one of the stolen ones. Mine was the first one to get installed because my number was number one. My teacher installed it for me. I got to turn mine on. My background was like the sky except it was purple, blue black and pink. I was so excited to start to type. This is my first blog post that I have typed on my new laptop.

I would not like to go their. It only shows the stairway but not the upstairs part. I wonder what’s up their. I think that someone lives their. But I would not like to live their. Their are some poor people in China and their are some rich people their too. I would like to be one of the rich ones. How would you like to be, rich or poor?? I also think that the stair way is just an abounded place. I don’t think anybody would like to live in an ugly dirty stairway. Comment me and tell me what you think.

What grade are you in and what do you think about your grade? Is it hard, easy or both? We have laptops and we do most of our stuff their. So writing is not that hard. One hard part for me is history and social studies. I don’t really get that kind of stuff. My best grade i’ve been in is 2nd grade because it’s not really hard stuff and my teachers were nice. That is why the best grade for me is 2nd grade. What’s the best grade you’ve been in?

Skyping With Alan

Last Tuesday we were Skyping with a guy named Alan. He is very cool. The cool part was that he was in Iceland far away from here and he was Skyping with my class. At first he started telling us about Iceland. I already know 2 cool facts, Iceland is a volcanic area and that in Iceland in the winter it’s pretty warm. Let me tell you about money. The money there is called krona, I think the name is pretty weird. They have some coins and bills like us in the U.S. One of the coins has a shark and the other has a has a crab. The value of the money is very different. A 5000 bill in Iceland here is only $50!  Well, like money is different the language they speak there is different too. The language there is called Icelandic. One word that I learned is takk and that means thank you. Another word there is skal and that means cheers. Another one is foss and that one means waterfalls. Over in Iceland a lot of people speak English too. They also celebrate Christmas. In January here it is cold and over in Iceland it won’t be cold. Also in Iceland their are almost no crimes. There are still kids outside almost until 11:00 at night!! Not even my Mom would let me out that late. One thing that I think is gross is that people over in Iceland eat DRY SHARK MEAT!! Also I forgot to tell you about the toilets. Their are the same kind of toilets except that their are two different buttons. One is for a big flush and the other is for a small flush. Pretty weird I think. But I bet that the people over there think that we are the weird ones. That is all I know about Iceland.

P.S When we were skyping the connection went really good.

Christmas

Christmas, Christmas, Christmas........ Christmas is a holiday. My favorite holiday. I like Christmas because we get to celebrate Jesus birthday. I also like Christmas because we get to give and get presents. Almost always on my Christmases this is how I celebrate it. At first me and my family and family friends make up plans. We make plans like “whose house are we going to celebrate it at” and “who is going to bring the food” and stuff like that. Me and my family usually end up going to California to visit my aunt, and usually my aunt makes turkey and tamales and some other stuff. Tamales is a Mexican food which I love. It is meat and some other stuff which I don’t know what it’s called. The meat and that other stuff is wrapped into this thing called masa which I think is flour. Then we wrap that into wet corn leaves. Then we cook it and after a while the tamales are done. Maybe this Christmas we will go to my aunts house to celebrate Christmas and eat yummy food. For Christmas I want a Nintendo DS. It’s a system which you play by touching the screen with this little pencil. Well that’s all I have to say about my Christmas.

P.S. Merry Christmas!

The Night Santa Came

Article posted December 19, 2008 at 09:21 PM GMT0 • Reads 155

Alondra

11 year old Alondra, laying in her bed tucked in as a kangaroo tucked in her mothers pouch. Waiting for Christmas to come Alondra dreamed about one of Santa’s reindeer getting injured. Then Santa calling her by her name. This is how the story began.

Wakening with a shock I awoke. I knew for some reason I had to go to the mall. Someone was waiting for me. I got dressed up and went into the kitchen to see if anyone was awake yet.

I wondered, ‘Why am I feeling that someone is waiting for me at the mall?’ No one was awake yet. I boiled water and got sugar, milk and coffee out. I made my coffee and got ready for the big trip, even though I didn’t know what a trip I was going to have that day.

I left a note in my room saying that I was going to my friends house. I got some money out of my bag just in case I wanted to buy something at the mall.

I opened the front door quietly so no one would hear me. I opened the door and walked out slowly.

After 10 minutes of walking I saw the mall in front of me. I opened the double doors and walked in. I walked and walked and then I saw the Santa place. Santa gave me a big wink and I knew that that meant to go with him.

I got in line and waited until it was my turn to go. I was next and I was so scared. I had to sit in his lap.

I sat down and he yelled “HO HO HO!!!! Merry christmas to everyone!!”  I got even more scared. “Well hello little girl,” he said in a lower voice this time, “What do you want for christmas? I know something about you.”

Then I finally said, “ What do you know about me?”

“Well I know your name and what you dreamed today.”  He said.

“Yeah? What is my name and what did I dream about today.”

“I know you dreamed about Christmas and your name is Alondra.” He said in a low voice. “Well let me tell you something, but don’t yell when I tell you. I send you your dream. I am the real Santa but no one knows it, except now you do. Don’t go around telling everyone who I really am, okay?”

“Sure.” I replied.

Santa started talking again, “ Did you dream about one of my reindeer getting injured? It was wasn’t it?”

“Yes it was.” I said, “So you are really magical.”

“Yes I am indeed.” Santa laughed. “Well like you already know one of my reindeer got injured. I need someone to fill in for that reindeer, and I’m not thinking of going back to the North Pole to get another reindeer, It’s to far.”

“So you want me to be one of your reindeer? I can’t do that if that’s what you want me to do.”

“Well, that is exactly right, I do want you to fill in for one of my reindeer. He got injured on his leg and he can’t go flying around.”

“ It’s not going to be okay with my parents though. But I would love to do that.”

“Your parents don’t have to know. I can freeze them until we come back and they would never know anything. Not actually freeze them but stop their minds. But hurry tell me yes or no make a decision other people are waiting in line.”

“Okay fine then,” I said, “I will do it. But when?”

“I will come to your room at night.” Santa replied.

“Okay.” I got off his lap and started running out the mall into the parking lots and I ran all the way home.

It was night and I heard a sound in the living room. I tip toed down the hall and found a jolly old Santa there.

“Over here.” I whispered. Santa saw me and came over to me. I made a follow motion and he followed me all the way to my room. “Well here I am.” Santa said, “You ready for the big trip?” Santa asked. “I guess I am.” I whispered.

“So, now I think it’s going to hurt a little bit when the hooves and the antlers come out.” Santa said.

“I don’t care just do it I want to get over with it, go.” I replied. “Okay here it goes,” Santa said,” Tada, todo, tada!!!”  The wind started to blow as hard as it could and I said, “Santa don’t yell my parents are going to wake...”

All of a sudden my back started to tickle. I tried to scratch myself but something stopped me! I already had hooves on my feet! Ouch!!! Antlers began to come out my head!!! Tada!! I was a reindeer the next minute. Now Santa began to talk, “Hurry we have to meet the reindeer on the rooftop.” “But... But.” I began to say but Santa interrupted me, “No buts. Hurry you have to learn how to fly.” By hearing that I got butterflies in my stomach. We ran out the door in to smoggy cold air of the midday. Santa got something out of his pocket and I asked, “What is that for?”

“It’s magical powder to make make you fly.” Santa said. All the butterflies I had in my stomach got away.

At first I thought I had to learn how to fly, but no I don’t have to learn to fly. Santa sprinkled the glittery stuff on my head and he said, “Now, once you jump your going to be able to fly. You just have to move directions. Just move your body left and right and you will go the way your body goes. But your going to take the lead.” Now I had butterflies in my stomach again.

Santa tied me up with all the other reindeer. After that Santa got on the sleigh and yelled, “Go!!” I jumped like if I were going to catch an apple from an apple tree. I floated through the air so easily. I started to move my feet like if I were swimming underwater. I began to move through the air.

“Now,” Santa said, “you already have good balance to land on pointy house.”

“Ok.” I said. “Can I practice on my own house? Practice landing on the roof.”

“Yes you may.” Santa said. I headed for my house roof. I slowed down when I was getting close. I landed right and Santa said I was ready to fly all over the world.

Santa already had the bag with the toys so we were all set to go.

I headed to the air when something stopped me. It was that my back started to itch again.

“Santa,” I said, “Could you scratch my back since it’s itching right now. We are not going to be able to stop once in a while to scratch your back, so you better get used to it.”

“Okay fine.” I moaned. We started on our trip going to the first house which was a pointy house. I was nervous when we were getting there, and again my stomach got butterflies. I got closer and closer each time. I was ready to land! I landed the right way! I felt a big relief. I knew I could make it through the whole world. Santa got off the sleigh and told all the reindeer and me to stay there and wait for him. All of a sudden a ladder appeared by the chimney. Santa climbed the ladder and went through the chimney.

A while later Santa came back. He said to go on to the next house. We went on and on until we were done with the night.

Santa took me back to my house. He opened the door to my house and I let Santa into my room with me. I was still a reindeer though and I asked, “Santa, could you turn me back into a person again please.”

“Of course I am.” He started to say the magical words again. “Tada, todo, tada!”

I felt the hooves going away, and the antlers going away too. A second later I was myself again.

I went running to Santa to give him a hug. I gave him a big hug and I told him to wait in my room.

I got out and went into my Mom and Dad’s room to check if they where there. I opened the door slowly and I saw them sound asleep. I closed the door and went to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator and got milk and cookies out. I poured milk into a cup and got some cookies out of the bag and went back to my room where Santa was waiting for me. I gave Santa the milk and cookies saying not a word, and silently he said, “Thank you. Now that you have helped me you can choose whatever you want for Christmas.” “Anything?” I asked.

“Yes, anything you say.” he replied.

So I chose my wish. “I want to go deliver gifts to kids next Christmas with you again.”

Santa made a weird face and said, “You may come with me next year. I will be waiting for you at the mall next year.”

“Okay I will go there then.” I said, and with that, he disappeared.

Today 2 women came to our class to visit. They are on  the UNR Women’s Basketball Team. One of her names was Cherlanda and the other one’s name was Kayla. When they came in Kayla was very quiet and Cherlanda was only talking a little bit. After people started asking questions then they started talking a little bit more. Cherlanda told us that she started playing basketball since she was 11 years old. Then she told us that playing basketball takes a lot of running.

Then Kayla said that some girls in their team are taller than they are. Kayla was 6 ft. tall and and Cherlanda was 5.10 ft. tall. They were really tall to me. Kayla is from Nevada and Cherlanda is from Arizona. Cherlanda and Kayla have played in many places. These are some of the places they have played in. Montana, Texas, California and more. By talking to Cherlanda, I found out they have played 15 games. They won 8 games and lost 7 out of 15. Then Cherlanda said that they have to run a lot to keep in shape. (Even I would run a lot, even if i’m not in a basketball team. I don’t want to get over weight.) After more questions Cherlanda told us that swimming is really, really good for your body. When I swim, I swim laps and after the first one my heart starts to beat really fast. Then Kayla said that she has a younger sister that also plays basketball, and Cherlanda said that she is an only child. Their was a few more questions but I don’t remember them. The day finally passed on and later they had to leave to visit another class in the school.

Juan

Article posted January 27, 2009 at 10:47 PM GMT0 • Reads 111

Days ago a college boy came to our class. He has a sister in my class, her name is Lesley.

When he came in he was very quiet and shy. He didn’t say a word when we came in from recess.

My teacher told us that his name was Juan.

Minutes later Juan started to introduced himself to the class. He said that it was his first year in college. He also said that he likes science and that he is studying biology in college.

A while later he told us that one of his books for collage cost $450.

Then he told us that some people pay $14,000 to go to college. $14,000 to pay books and everything.

Juan told us that he has once dissected a cricket. Juan also told us that when he was in elementary, his parents only spoke spanish. In my family my mom doesn't know how to speak English but my dad knows a lot. I speak 2 languages and so does he. He told us that he likes speaking 2 languages, and I agree with him. At home almost all I speak is spanish but at school almost all I speak is English.

When he was about to go, the UNR Women’s Basketball Team came in. When Juan was about to leave he told us that he liked to go to college.

The End

By the way I also have a post about the UNR Women’s Basketball Team.

The important thing about Groundhog day is that it is celebrated on February, 2. If the groundhog does not see its shadow, then it will not be scared to come out of its burrow and winter will soon end, but if the groundhog pops out from its burrow, sees his shadow, and then disappears again, it will mean that winter is to continue for six more weeks, the celebration of Groundhog Day began in the US with Pennsylvania's earliest settlers. But the most important thing about Groundhog Day is that it is celebrated on February, 2.

Going To Outer Space-Remix

This is a remix of an earlier post.

Alondra

One day I wished I could go to outer space. I thought I would go to the moon, Pluto and to Mars. It would be so cool if I did. I asked my Mom how it would feel to go to outer space and my Mom said that she didn’t know because she’s never been to outer space. So I asked her that when I grew up I could go. She answered me with a no because it was to dangerous. I asked her why and she said because I might get lost in outer space. I went to my room and imagined getting lost in outer space. So I thought it wouldn't be so fun getting lost in outer space and after that day I stopped thinking about going to The Moon, Pluto and Mars.

The interesting thing about the Sun is that it is the shinny star that brightens my day. It is hot as a hot boiling pot. The Sun wakes up in the day and it goes to sleep at night. It lightens our day like a nighttime star. But the most fascinating thing about the Sun is that it makes me feel good.

The Amazing Softball Story

Today we were watching a video called “The Amazing Softball Story.” It was really amazing because it was about a girl that was in a softball game when she hit a home run and then she started running. But, while running she tore her knee ligaments. It was so sad at first but then at the end it was so amazing. When she went on she stopped all of a sudden but then she fell on the floor. So she went off crawling back to the first base. Then this was the amazing part out of the whole story. Two other girls from the other team asked the umpire of they could carry Sara (the girl that tore her knee ligaments) around the the bases. So the umpire said “Sure.” They went up to Sara and asked her if they could carry her around the bases, and Sara said yes. They got her up from the ground and carried her all around the bases. Then the video ended.

Today this is the second time we Skyped in one day. This time it was with Appleby School in New Zealand. It was really interesting to see people from another place other than Nevada. I learned that chicken in New Zealand is called chook. Another thing I learned was that they like soccer like most of my class does, even though im not really a fan of soccer. Also the kids over their like to skateboard. One girl said that she has about 7 dogs. Then we had to do our part. First it was the first and second group. After the first group was done we got in line because we were the third group. After number 2 was done we were up next meanwhile the 4th group got in line. After we were done the line kept on going until every group had gone. Then me and my class sang our state song. After that they sang their state song. At the beginning they sang it in a different language. After that, almost nothing important happened. Then we all logged off Skype.

They answered and we started to say “Hi” to each other. Then they told us that they wanted us to go first. First the first group stood up in front of the computer then the second group. (My group was number 3.) After number one was done we went in line after group number 2. I was so scared at first but then after I was up on the screen, it wasn’t so bad after all. My part was to say the levation, temperature, climate and wind of Sparks Nevada in spanish. I thought I would do a bad job, but I dind’t.

The Mystical Cat

Once upon a time their was a cat named Barbara. Everyone named her The Mystical Cat because of her way of acting. Barbara acted unormal.

Then one day she went out to hunt for mice. She went up to a stairway to look for mice when all of a sudden Barbara heard a yell at the corner.

She jerked her head toward the door and saw no one else, but Lala the timid witch.

Every cat called her by Lala. Lala was special because she could could speak to cats, which means the she speak cat language.

Every little kid was scared of her. Even the cats.

But one thing that I haven’t told you...Barbara hadn’t ever seen the witch, she doesn't even know Lala excises. Other cats didn’t know why a “human being” was talking to them in cat language.

Barbara got so scared, she started to run down the stairway. After she got to the bottom she never came back to that stairway. Days passed and she always walked by, but never went up. Days passed until Barbara decided that she missed the stairway so she wanted to go up again.

She climbed up slowly when she heard the same yell again at the corner. She clambered down and then decided to never in her life go up the stairway again.

The amazing thing about the Moon is that the Moon weights 73,600,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg. Also because it is 238,855 miles away from Earth. Another amazing thing about the Moon is that it has 8 phases. The Moon is made of the similar kind of volcanic rock found on Earth. But the most fantastic thing about the Moon is that the gravity of the moon is around 1/6 the gravity of the Earth.

Sojourner

Today we read a book called sojourner. It was kind of hard, but at the same time fun. The book was called Sojourner. This is a true story that took place on Mars. Another cool thing about this book is that it had a lot of details.

Sojourner is a rover that was planed to land on Mars on Friday, July 4th,1997.

By the way I was only bout 1 month old when this happened.

Sojourner’s job was to study rocks on Mars.

Their are some rocks that some scientist named. Here are some of the names. Yogi, Scooby Doo, Casper, Wedge, Shark and Half Dome. I only know some of these names. I know Scooby Doo, which is a dog from a cartoon. I also know Casper which is a ghost from a movie. I think i know Yogi... But im not sure, but it sound familiar.

Another thing I like about this book is that in almost every page it tells you what Sol it is.

If you don’t know what a Sol is I’ll tell you. A Sole is a Martian day which last 24 hours and 37 minutes.

I was really surprised... I was like wow! Sols are almost like the days on Earth by 37 minutes. So I thought that that was another thing Mars and Earth have in common.

Our Transportation System

Article posted May 14, 2009 at 07:02 PM GMT0 • Reads 171

Today I’m going to talk about my system for Marsopolis. My system is transportation. So me and my teammates made a type of car. The solar panels work to lighten up the light bulbs and run the electric motor. We also put some seats in the inside so the astronauts could sit on.  As you can also see we made wheels so the vehicle could roll around the rocky planet. We made the car black so it wouldn’t blend into Mars, and would really show throughout Mars. So this is my transportation vehicle for Mars. With this device we can explore around Mars, and this is going to help scientist look for life, water and get more information about the winds on Mars.

Hello everybody! My summer is going really great. Im really missing Mr. Crosby and the white laptop. First of all I want to talk about my birthday party. A lot of people came. My friend Camila came. Adtizirith, Gissel and Chance (my other friends) came too. It was a blast. We had posole and tamales (2 mexican types of food which are really yummy) and cake and ice cream after that. another cool thing was that I got a lot of gifts. My aunt bought me a really cute shirt and a watch. The watch was really cute and sparkly. 2 pretty barbies from my 8 year old friend (I don't play with barbies anymore but I still apriciate it.) But the rest was more pretty adorble clothes. I have nothing else to say but have a great summer!!

P.S Thank you Mr. Crosby for all the teaching and support you have given me this past 3 years.

Summer is about to end and school is just around the corner... I can't wait for school to come. Middle School is going to be a big difference from Elementry. We are going to have lockers and many different classes to go to. What would really be a cool thing, would be to get Mr. Crosby in one of my classes in Middle School. That would be a wish come true.

P.S Hope you are ready for school like I am.
