What kapahaka is?

Article posted August 1, 2007 at 02:15 AM GMT0 • Reads 56

Kaphaka is mainly performed by Maori people. We performed at the Tainui reginols and we came 8th out of 14 which was pretty cool. Our nerves caught up to us but we managed to cool down as we were probably performing in front of 800 people or so.

Last year when we went to Manu Ariki and came 1st that was mean as.I am a harmoniser for the group so I have to keep my tune in harmony. We have a good program and we have good tutors.

The process in the program from what comes first to last was put in order for us.

Number 1=Waiata tira(which is the choral)

Number 2=Whakaeke(which is a entry)

Number 3=Waiata koroua(which is like an old mans song)

Number 4=Waiata-a-ringa(which is a action song)

Number 5=Poi(The poi is mainly for the girls as they perform it with a special object 'the poi')

Number 6=Haka(A fierce dance made by the boys)

Number 7=Whakawatea(A whakawatea is the exit to go off stage).

Kapahaka is part of my culture thats why I love it.It will always be with me where ever I go.

2 . Bringing my P.E gear so that I can contribute with what is happening eg sports,Athletics.

3. Participating in things wether its compulsory or not.

4. Completing everything that I have to work on like Math,Te Reo,Reading and other things like that.

5. Listening to all the teachers and helping other people learn more things like kapahaka, actions or possibly songs.

Those are really my goals for this term.
