What Kapa Haka is

Article posted August 2, 2007 at 07:00 AM GMT0 • Reads 60

First of all Kapa Haka is done by the Maori people. They are the tangata whenua.(People of the land) The Maori people were here before the Pakeha people. Our language is Te Reo Maori.

Kapa Haka is a cultural performance done by Maori people. It is traditional to us Maori people. It can be competitive or just entertainment. We express feelings through songs and hakas's(A haka is a performance done by boy's with anger. You can see it if you watch the All Blacks,NZ). If you ever get to see it you'll probably be amazed. Our Kapa Haka group just finished Regionals and came 8th out of 14 other teams, which was pretty good knowing that there were some Maori schools that do Kapa Haka everyday. So yeah Kapa Haka is a thing that I love and always will.

My Goals For Term 3

Article posted August 7, 2007 at 12:04 AM GMT0 • Reads 38

1) My first goal is to understand Whaea Ngaria more in Te Reo Maori. Although I can already understand her, i want to learn more.

2) My second goal is to improve my handwriting. To do this i need to practise more not only at home but at school too.

3) My Kapa Haka is another goal. I want to step up another notch by learning the items fast and them just keep practising hard.

4) Another goal is my homework. I need to finish my homework and get it back to school in time

I am hoping to achieve all these by the end of the term and hav higher goals in Term 4.
